Not saints related but did anyone see the England Italy game? In a nut shell Italy choose not to contest any of the rucks and where beating England going into the 2nd half by using this tactic. Could this make RU more like RL from today onwards? Watch the video on the BBC website as the video is better than my description.

| Made the game a lot faster! Only watched a little. There was a point in the game where there were 7 kicks from side to side of the field, two tackles then another 4 kicks- I stopped watching at that point  |

Agree with the referee, Italian coach did what was best for his team and players! that's reacting!

I don't claim to understand Union, but when they don't commit to the ruck, why can they then mark the receivers in the line? Surely they are ahead of the ball and offside?
If that rule doesn't exist, it seems a rather easy change to make?

In Union rules it's the player in the ruck that dictates offside , no player , no offside , funny isn't it , to hear an Aussie complain about somebody else pushing the rules to their advantage |

Rule on rucks need players from the opposition to be involved. The tackler was the only player involved so due to Italy not putting anyone in its was open play and players can go where they want. Once 1 other Italian goes in its a ruck so all have to go onside. This will get changed though quickly if it happens again. |

What I don't get is why, if Italy weren't putting anyone into the ruck, could England not just pick the ball up from the ruck and push forward, they would make metres very easily wouldn't they? |

Your correct. However it took England the full 1st half to work that out
In the 2nd half they avoiding hitting the floor to keep it as a rolling ruck so Italy had to commit players into the ruck. Do we think this will get changed or is it one step closer to more league type tactics for RU? |

But England do not have players with the intelligence of say Roby, Cameron Smith, Burrows etc who would have read that and darted through and created chaos. Union players are robotic and limited in creative thinking especially in the areas of distribution in ruck or maul.
Think the England players got confused and panicked for a bit. |
