| Just who made the call to let him go? Bloody fools.
He'd have been so much better than Katy Perry has been. Quality he was today.

Never mind him, there is also Paul Johnson of Wakefield, we could have probably kept the two of them for the salary Perry is on.
I would like to think that if Wakey get demoted at the end of this season that Saints offer Paul Johnson a contract. He is just what we need a hard working prop.

Nobody. Cas offered him more money and a place in the starting 17. He left for those reasons. But we could have done with him and Paul Johnson this season. However, would we be saying that if Perry hadn't been a biscuit but instead had blasted his way through defences? Or if Clough had practised his tackle technique more and not given himself three months off? I doubt it.

I was told that he had offered to stay at Saints on half the money Cas were offering (which isn't that much anyway) and Saints told him they did want him.
Doesn't look a smart call now but to be fair hindsight is a wonderful thing.

| Shame for the lad he was definately on a mission last night , put some lovely hits on, and I enjoyed the wink he gave when he got away with "helping" the ball squeeze out of O Loughlins hands

If ANYONE had asked you last year whether you'd rather have Jake Emmitt and Paul Johnson or Josh Perry, I think we all know what the answer would have been.
Would that have made you a "bloody fool"? No.
Isn't hindsight marvellous.

Why not keep him AND sign Perry? That's what Warrington would do.

But we had in theory TP, Jammer, LMS, Perry and Clough in the way of Emmitt playing prop. If Cas were offering him a decent first team salary then there's not much we could have done. I suspect Ashurt and Dicko will still be on "squad man" wages.

i suppose thats fair, but i suspect he'd have stayed at Saints for reasonable money, same with Johnson, and i'd always rather have 7 props in my squad than 7 back rowers

Me too, but lets be honest Johnson hadn't done anything to warrant a new contract and isn't as young as the likes of Ashurst/Dixon.
Again, hindsight......

Hindsight is such a good thing isn't it
Here are you quotes on Jacob Emitt when there was a topic on him:
"emmit is not good enough for superleague imo"
"he has played for the first team 5 times in total, even though he was availiable through our injury crisis last year. We had 2 props out for over 10 weeks on the trot and he didnt show anything. Further more at 22 he's a year older than Frodsham, but behind him in perceived(by the saints backroom staff) to be behind him in ability. That puts him behind Jammer, Maurie, Foz, Tony P, Brynn, Cloughy and Frodsham. An 8th choice prop has no future at our club, its not harsh, its reality. He may make a few quid from playing rugby in the lower leagues but thats it."
Saddends comment:
Big enough, strong enough, but one of those players who just looks like the lights are off inside his head. Everything is done slowly and he runs in with the impact of a marsh mallow man.
Such experts on our youngsters!

I salute your endeavour, sir. There's no way I would have bothered doing that myself, but I think you scored yourself a couple of hits there.

| Hey hands off Paul Johnson, been a star for us this year never ever disapears and is always there to take the ball in. he is also my 3 year old God daughters favourite player and he always waves to her if he sees her. great bloke off the field aswell. oh and Chris Dean set off like a house on fire too but unfortunately has simmered down a bit but wether that is due to injuries i dont know.

That doesn't mean a thing. I'm not paid to develop Saints' squad and am entitled to change my opinion on a daily basis.
Maybe it's the quality of the coaching at Cas that has brought him on? Our young forwards all look terrible while they are at the club. Perhaps the likes of Ashurst and Dixon would look like they were human and not jellyfish if they had a better coach?

I reckon all of these options would have changed during the run in last season though, when he started to show form. His time at Leigh early in the season really gave him the experience he needed to kick on. I'm pretty sure the above posters would have kept him before Hargreeaves by septemeber 2010.

Touchy aren’t we!
Thank God you are not paid to develop the Saints squad, couldn’t imagine your very good at motivating people.
I do not like the derogatory terms you use when referring to our youngster perhaps this is a reflection on you rather than them but I don’t think there is any need for it.
I am of the opinion that Ashurst and Dixon should be dual registered or out on loan, why rotate Magennis,Dixon & Ashurst and play them for so few minutes – Dixon was developing last year under Potter and as most people state on here he looks to be going backwards – why not send him and Ashurst out on loan or dual registration and see what they can do when they are playing more minutes, I for one just do not understand the reasoning behind this as it is not beneficial for the club or the youngsters.
Jacob Emmitt came on leaps and bounds playing at Leigh, on dual registration, and now he is playing regular first team rugby albeit for another Super League club but I am in agreement we should have kept him. The kids that come through the academy are on pennies in comparison to the aussies, they are well worth a gamble.

So after all your detective work you agree with me The dual registration system is something we should use more I'll agree with you on that one.

Oh it took me all of about 2 minutes, if you click on search and then enter Emmitt as a topic you can track back your comments very quickly, but I also have a very good memory.
I have never disagreed with you regarding the dual registration/loan system but I don't like the way you are so derogatory to the younster.
There are several members of my family that are registered both on here and redvee but you probably already know that but nice try to deflect.
I will probably be retrieving this post again in the near future

| It is never a case of yes or no but how much money. Emmitt is a good player but Saints cannot afford to pay silly amounts of money for players, especially when at the time they were trying hard to keep Roby, Graham and Eastmond. Castleford really wanted him so they stumped up the cash.
Our front row is ten times better than last year down to the signings of LMS and Perry. Even though they have not played as much as we wanted they have still been better than Bryn and Fozzard. Emmitt was a stand out player in 2010 but in a well beated front row. It is hard to offer good money to player who plays in a teams weakest position. Jake also probably knew that he was likely to be 4th/5th in the pecking order at Saints while at Cas' he is 1st. More money and regular game time is a no brainer, so you cannot blame him for that.
Paul Johnson is a solid player and we already have plenty of them so I have no issues with him going.
I am surprised more people do not talk about Chris Dean who did very little wrong at Saints and would have made an excellent Lee Gilmour-esk second rower. Jamie Ellis also was only given 1 fisrst team game after being very strong in the u-20s. These two players are more likely to come back and bite us on the backside than Emmitt and Johnson.
The bottom line is that there is a production line of young players coming through and the club need to make quick decisions about how good a lot of these players are going to become. We gave Ste Tyrer too bigger chance at the expense of Tom Armstrong who at the moment looks a better talent. We could end up losing him at the end of the year also due to his lack of game time.
We need to give players a fair go then assess them after a couple of years rather than uming and ahing and creating a log jam. I would like to see guys like Greenwood and Hale given a go after some very below par performances from Ashusrt and Dixon for example.
