| I had my doubts when he first came but I'm pleased to have been proved wrong.
For various reasons it was always going to be a difficult time for a new coach to take over at Saints but he's just got on with the job.
We're well placed in the league for a good end to the season and it would be nice to win some silverware, but its been a pleasure to watch some of the youngsters come through and the future looks good and we're playing some entertaining rugby.

| I was hopeful of Simmons based on his experience at Wests (liking their style and that) and I liked the sound of him as a regular kind of bloke from early on. I haven't been disappointed. I just hope we can enjoy a settled side before the season is out because he won't have been able to develop our play as much as he would have liked with degree and frequency of changes he has had to adapt to. It must have been like groundhog day for him for most of this season, having to repeatedly go back to basics in order to facilitate yet another group of young players or significant changes. I hope Robes isn't going to be out long and that we manage to hold on to the players we now have on the pitch so that we can have as good a chance as possible during the second half of the season.

| He certainly hasn't had an easy ride what with the contracts disruption and the never ending injury crisis. I like him when he protects the players after a loss or bad performance by taking partial blame himself as though he's part of the team.
We havn,t seen much of him in the media, next season he should be in a much better position to push Saints into the next era. Our season hasn,t really kicked off yet, so maybe we can run into some top form for the cup comps next month and onwards.

| I like royce. He's a very down to earth guy but what i like most is he's never happy. If we put a big score on but let in four silly tries you can see he's not happy.

| I'll make a judgement at the end of the year. He's had the benefit of Potter blooding a lot of the kids in the previous two years and not having to deal with a number of club legends being past it, they've made the trials he's had to deal with easier.

Situation and position are two different things! I would imagine our 'situation' relates to the injuries we have had. Our position is very good. But that's in part because Simmons has done a good job blending the multiple versions of Saints that have taken to the pitch this season.

Potter had the past it club legends to lean on in times of trouble. Potter might have bloodied a few kids, but Simmons has integrated them - and a lot more of them too (without the legends to lean on).

The likes of Long and Cunningham were not good enough in their last years, Cunningham had a few high spots (last try at KR) but on the whole was pretty average by that point. Simmons only has Wellens at that stage currently.
Who has Simmons brought into the team that was not fairly regular in the first team under Potter? Gaskell and Makinson. And he was forced into using both.

We wouldn't have gotten to the Grand Final without Cunningham. He visibly lifted the team whenever he came on.

He has brought more than Gaskell and Makinson into the team! How many u20s have had debuts this season? Four? At least. And Potter was also forced into playing some youngsters. We had an injury crisis last season too, just in case you have forgotten. But the most notable difference has been in the halves. Potter played Gaskell for one full match (which we lost) plus half of another match. He then reverted to Wilkin and apart from the playoffs when he brought Smith back (thanks to Purtill) he played Wilkin and Moore in the halves during the absence of Pryce and Eastmond. Simmons reverted to Wilkin only when we had run out of halves altogether. Simmons is not using Wilkin in the halves now. He's using young halfbacks.
Anyway, this is a thread about Royce Simmons. I won't be arguing about this one any further as I think Simmons has been doing a terrific job and don't want to see a thread about him derailed by a stupid argument over Potter.

He's doing a decent job so far, but judgement can only really be made at the end of the season.

I think he's doing a decent enough job but we're 4(?) games in against the challengers (Wigan/Wire/Hudds) and haven't won one yet.
Next few weeks will be crucial. I definitely like him though and he's had a lot to deal with.
