Apologies for indulging in what some Saints fans think is a Wigan "obsession", but well done on your average attendance this season.

11,195 is the second year of rising crowds despite a "traditional" stadium, and this is a good result. As someone who has criticised your level of support on this board in the past I thought I should set the record straight.

Hopefully one day most SL clubs will have crowds at this sort of level or even higher, it would be a great step forward for the game as a whole.

There must be something about awful rugby and rising crowds, Wigan in 06, us in 09.





But, on a long term front, this is extremely pleasing news.

It's good that someone has the balls to come on here and post this.

To further emblish this point, when Saints were the perenial bridesmaids in the late 80's and early 90's we generally averaged 8,000 (which was one of the better supports in the league behind your Wigan's and Leeds)

To have improved that by 30% in a climate where people's expectations of stadia and entertainment have changed dramatically is some achievement.

Add to this the fact that Saints have been on tele a lot compared to the 'old' days and you have a sense of perspective.

When other teams are drawing 15k plus, then they may have a right to cast judgement on crowds. The simple fact remains that Leeds and Wigan have historically drawn the crowds when they have had decent teams and Saints and Hull have followed with strongish stats also.

Is that our average? Over 11 thousand? I can't remember us ever getting an 11k+ crowd this year bar Wigan?

Nice to see another rise, that is great news indeed, but only a decent play offs can boost season ticket sales for 2010 I feel... unless the "lure" of buying a season ticket in 2010 guarantees you get a seat for 2011 at the Stobart stadium in Widnes ! Somethign has to change as nobody will be bothering to watch the current "entertainment"

I dunno. A mate of mine did a University thesis about how the modern society reacts better to doom and gloom than it does to positive stimuli. He applied it to Wigan's season where they were truly terrible and cheated to avoid relegation. Their crowds were insane.

He reckoned that public beheadings and executions these days would attract bigger crowds than sporting events.

I'm surprised they don't have them on TV.

Saints crowds have been great this year as they have not been as good as previous season on the pitch.

I think any sensible saints fan would say that crowds were poor considering how dominant you were but this season many fans have shown they are very loyal!

Your away support is also amoung the best in the league.

I think the will be a drop in season tickets next year.

With the credit crunch, lack of signings and the current brand of rugby being played as the main reasons.

Il be getting my season ticket for next season, I just hope not to many have been put off with our boring home games this year.

Well, as at about three weeks ago, our season ticket sales were up 62% on the same time last year, so I think you might be wrong! I think people are looking towards the new stadium and attracted by hints of being able to attend season ticket holders only meetings about the new stadium. It's a good ploy. I just hope the stadium is built now!

Although for the time being I will take the 62% increase stat with a pinch of salt and only get excited about it if its that much higher come the start of the season next year. Fingers crossed though we do keep the increase on the amount sold though although I very much doubt the final increase will be anywhere near that large.

How do you think that cheating would affect the crowd figures? And do you think it also had an effect on Saints' crowd figures that year?

TBF we have had 2 years of dropping averages and in this time we have been champions twice so there must be something in that
