| Whats going on? The deadline has passed so we could now announce any deals with SL players. GH was a name mentioned many a time and he's not signed elsewhere yet so that looks likely.
But surely to god we are going to replace JC with another big name?
We don't even get mentioned in the rumour articles in the league papers.

It mentioned in the league weekly on pge 3 that you'll be looking to bring 1 more player in.
Potter says he's looking for a "bargain" signing because that's all he has scope for!!

What a farce. Are they suggesting we're spending near the cap on that lot? we must be 3 or 4 senior players down on previous years and if KC leaves we have none of the superstars we used to have. We used to have Long, Scully, KC (All on their biggest deals), Lyon, Albert etc all in the same squad.
Either my maths has suffered since I left uni or Saints are scrimping. Which is it?

When you look at the players coming through they won't be on poor money for long will they!!
A few 1st team appearances and a lot of them have raises written into their contracts.

| The club are yet to announce the re signing of Matty Smith and his subsequent year long loan at Salford - even though Salford announced it last week. The club are yet to say whether KC will play on or will retire at the end of this season - even though tomorrow is the last home game of possibly KC's last season. Neither have the club confirmed that Cayless is leaving even though Keiron Purtill's interview today says hes likely to have played his last game for Saints.I have no idea if we have anybody signed for next season but given the fact the club haven't even made announcements about the players we already have, its no surprise there is no news on those that we don't.

I think for plenty of years fans of other clubs always wondered how that team was under the salary cap.
Graham must be on a lot or soon will be.
Try watching Bradford and seeing that team lose hape, peacock, vainikolo, withers, pryce etc.. and not see any real quality signings coming in apart from a 35 year old aussie.

No.
We've been linked with a few names, but nothing's come about yet. Potter is hopeful adding one more player along with the returning Scott Moore.

We are in the hunt for a "bargain" player, so says Mick Potts. So its Soliola and Moore back from his 2 year loan spell only so far...

| If you are really only adding Soliola and Moore (two decent players btw) plus 1 other, I hope for your sake its a prop.
You rely on Graham in the same way we rely on Peacock, and neither team has much else in the front row IMO, although we have picked up a couple of players who could fill that void within the next two years.
It does seem a little strange that you seem to have lost a good number of quality players over the last couple of years and Puletua apart, don't seem to have replaced them with similar quality. I'm not sure if your squad size has grown with more young kids becoming regular fixtures, but even if this is the case it's doubtful that they would have taken up the spend previously allocated to the likes of Sculthorpe etc.
It would be a shame to see KC and Long go and not be replaced by quality better than currently seems to be the case, in addition to the prop I mentioned earlier.

| We desperately need another Prop - the question is, are we desperate enough to get Paul Jackson from Hudds????
Is he the "bargain player" which Potter is on about??

| Oh get off.
Boooooo.
Potentially:
Long
Cayless
Cunningham
Gilmour
Are leaving. That is 4 highly paid international players, two of whom are all time greats who will be being paid an absolute fortune.
Soliola and Moore's salaries coming in. Moore is on the same contract he was when he left for Castleford two years ago, so very little in comparison what the likes of Cunningham. Soliola is an overseas signing but isn't a top line player so I'd be disappointed if he's paid as much as Gilmour was. Several of our young players have new deals but IMO none of them warrant a big contract yet.

If this is tongue in cheek, then I apologise but there are alot of people with short memories on this board. I normally take the time to read your posts and respect the majority of your comments, but this is way off the mark.
Without McManus who has plied a fortune of his OWN money into the club, and has recently announced the directors and written off debts re personal loans paid into the club in readiness for the stadium the club wouldnt even exist, Im truly amazed.
Weve already signed Soliola and a GB international in Scott Moore.
Saints have no doubt a huge financial commitment with the new stadium coming to fruition which must impact on the club. Would people rather see us bankrupt ourselves?
McManus has shown over the years what a shrewd customer he is in the transfer market, and the success we have had. Do you seriously think the club are going to publicy state, "yes we have a small fortune to spend on two new signings, and are currently scouring the market!".
Offiah looks like he's squeezing the club with Eastmond's contract negotations, and others armed with such knowledge would undoubtedly do the same.
Lets wait and see who comes in, before we make sweeping comments. Talk about blind panic!

This is what makes me feel at ease with our lack of signings (though we do really, really need another prop!). In addition, in the RL press this week it is reported that of all the RL clubs only Saints is 'relaxed' (I think that was the word used by League Express!) over the image rights issue because McManus et al have made sure we have been doing things the right way around by keeping in close contact with the authorities. That kind of foresight and commitment to the club reassures me no end. Sure, so far as recruitment is concerned choices can turn bad: that's just the risk any organisation takes when taking on new staff. But while I may sometimes question what our coach is doing and I may be utterly bemused by what some of our players are doing sometimes, I do have confidence in what McManus is doing. I'm very glad he's our chairman. After all the cockups we've endured in the past, it's a relief to have a very competent, skilled and committed leadership on board.
