Hudds nailed us from the kick off each time with a spiral bomb. Sky coverage of the game suggested that was one reason why we didn't take the 2 on offer late in the game. The technique has great rewards - what's stopping us from doing it?

We have enough trouble kicking the ball between the stationary posts. Dont want to confuse our kickers even more by giving them this to do.

how on earth can you say we've no pack when the majority of people on here are moaning that we're playing five drives and a kick!

Its certainly a good kickoff technique we had allsorts of problems dealing with it.

I suspect it will become pasrt of the game very quickly.

However, I would rather see them bin the kicking tee for kickoffs.

looks good on paper ! but hang on fassa crocked, cayless crocked, Hargreaves crocked, Dixon & ashurst inexperienced kids, wilkin, puletua, playing way below par. Roby ineffective now we cant play fast ball, which leaves jamma and kc. so if you think our packs running over the other squads in super league at this point in time mate your not watching what i am!

We are "gents" when it comes to the kick off. We simply hoof it to the opposition team. We dont try any fancy kicks, any spiral bombs or such like, we simply act like gents and kick the ball back to the opposition. Why would we want to try and re-gain the ball, its nto gentlemanly conduct.

That's our downfall, we are just too nice!

Simple reason we dont do it is that we play the safe game.

We kick long and hope to contain the opposition deep in there half.

Now if we went for the short kick and did not regain the ball, then the opposition would of 5 drives and a kick to Meli who would not catch it, meaning we concede a try.

Its a game of percentages.

Its the same with the last tackle kick, very rare will we use it, very rare will we peg a team behind their line and go for a repeat set... look at Friday night, we simply just got tackled on the last time and time again, "GENTLEMEN" and a credit to the game. The rest of the league could do well to follow suit.

It must have been a spiral bomb that flummoxed Dixon and led to that neat try of Huddersfields within seconds of us returning to the pitch at the semi final. I saw the ball spinning laterally and wondered how on earth the receiving player would deal with that without knocking on (presumably Dixon wondered the same thing for some time afterwards, bless him!).

I think our kicking game is very naive in every department and Hudds really exposed this.

When Hudds were around 1/2 way on the last tackle they made a point of having the kicker being back behind the 40 even if he had to drop back a fiar bit to do it. Not only does this make the 40/20 an option but it gives the kicker more time and space to put in a good kick. Our kicks seem to be rushed every time.

We never try to kick it dead when we're under pressure getting out of our own half. This is a very dull tactic but works very well for Leeds, HKR and Hudds. Pryce can kick the ball miles so why don't we use him for this? And drop outs too for that matter? Wello's kicks don't generally go more than 40 metres.

We never kick for touch from the 20 metre restart. Wingers are hardly ever back so this doesn't even require much skill but still we don't try it.

We never use the short kick off or any kind of kick off that might cause the defence problems for that matter. We just do a flat deep kick off that's easy to catch and doesn't hang in the air long enough to give our players time to pressurise the catcher.

Indeed. I heard a rumorour from a reliable source suggest that we even ask the opposition are they ready before we kick off. Potter has suggested that we give them a practice kick next year to ensure our reputation as gentleman is further enhanced.

You forgot that we usually kick to a player that can catch. Kicking to Crabtree or Griffin would just be rude. Lets chip it to Hodgeson instead.

Good idea, so long as we give him a 10 second start before we can get him.
