Quote ="Saddened!"Give over. Wii hasn't outsold the other consoles because of the large number of high quality games. It outsold them using marketing and the hype machine. It succeeded in getting non-gamers (Like Beyonce, Louise Nerding and Girls Aloud) to buy one to play the games they advertise on the tele.'"
Surely they didn't buy their own??
Seriously, though, you're saying the Wii is emulating the Playstation... The Sega Saturn had the better selection of games, but thanks to the marketing of Sony, the PS1 prevailed while Sega floundered, despite the superiority of their console?
I'd say the secret to the Wii's success is Nintendo didn't just market their affordable, innovative, fun console to the under 25s... rather than alienating the older audience, they embraced old and young alike.
Quote I'd bet that the majority of Wii's are idle for about 6 months in between plays. We've got one ourselves and it's been in the loft since Christmas only for the Mrs to spot a game on an advert she liked and get it down for two evenings of play before it was tossed in the cupboard again.'"
It's a dangerous game, taking your own personal experience and saying that is likely to be the general consensus. I'd bet you're way off the mark. Certainly for me, I use mine pretty much every day, in fact I'm writing this reply on it now!!
Quote There are hardly any genuinely good games on Wii. A few clever ideas and a few classics but on the whole Wii games are lazy efforts with no depth at all.'"
Again, simply not true. Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Trauma , and my pick for one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time, Resident Evil 4, all excellent games, and just the tip of the iceberg. The Wii has some tripe out, as have all consoles over the years. But there are some genuine diamonds, and you're clearly missing out.
Nintendo have earnt their position as top selling gaming brand for both home consoles and the handheld market. Whilst I hated them during the N64 "60 quid a game" years, they are doing something very right this time round.
I think the decision to "test the water" with a Wii release is absolutely spot on. Get the gameplay right first!
