Quote ="McClennan"I'll take every year being pot luck for who is going to be winning the trophies over the same old same old. What I think is going to be difficult for some of our pinheads to accept is that there is no longer any right to expect to challenge for the top honours every year. That sort of expectation is what has held back Wigoon fans which is perfectly understandable. We, as supporters of this club, can't fall into the same mindset. We need to recognise (and defeats like this help us to understand) that it really is every game as it comes now. Easy games where you can coast are the exception which is something we've seen this year in our own home games. I can't remember the last time we lost three home league games in a season that didn't include Wigoon.
Our dream competition is just beginning and we need to make sure we are able to deal with that psychologically because whatever the feeling is on the terraces it can transfer onto the field. Time to get behind the team and help lift them towarrds the play-offs.'"
Mike, glad to read your sensible post.
I've dreamt for a competition like Australia, where any team can turn up and beat you on your own doorstep. Imagine being a fan over there with only 1 trophy to play for, at least they've got Origin but they can go 20 years without the Grand Final.
Watching the highlights of the 89 semi, reminds you of being the underdog. I wouldn't take anything away from what we've achieved in Super League, but the time has come for the competition to be evened out and get that feeling of will we win or won't we again.
The transistion at Saints has begun, I imagine that all will come together nicely for our 1st season in the new stadium.
