If you had a choice of Bailey or Flannery, who would you pick, and why?

Legohead. Both are probably equal in terms of ability, but Flannery has done so much work for the club in other ways.
Legohead is everything the model professional should be, and more.
Plus I have also seen numerous complaints on your board about Bailey.

To be honest they're both the kind of player a quota place is wasted on.
Hard working, average players that we [ishould[/i be producing ourselves.

The main complaints in regards to Bailey are is rumoured earnings.
Would you be satisfied with Flannery's performances if he was rumoured to be on over £100k?
I'll be happy if Bailey is in the squad as he's defensively very good, hard working and is a leader.

If you listen to the players and not the fans they will tell you how well respected an professional Phil bailey is.
The reason i brought Flannery into it is for that very reason.
Both players are the unfashionable, workaholic, professional player that every side needs but rarely get the praise they deserve.
Our two heaviest defeats last season came when Bailey was out injured, a fact completely unnoticed by the "he doesn't run 60 metres "every time he gets the ball brigade.

He is, and to be fair to Legohead, I am pleased with him. Especially this season, he has shown shades of a top quality player in there somewhere, quite often making that break that gives us field position.
I doubt he'd get a renewed contract, but he is certainly be a good buy for us to help blood some younger second rowers.
Compare this to your situation with Bailey, where you NEED him to be a top performer, and it is completely different.

| Bailey and lego are very similar players, both do a good job, both take up a quota spot. We needed Flannery when he started for us and by the time his contract is up we should be able to fill the void from within, Wigan need Bailey now for his leadership more than anything else. Both are well worth their spot. That said "powerhouses" they aint

Time was that the likes of good British players like Bernard Dwyer and Mick Cassidy fulfilled these roles...

| I can certainly see Hansen as a Mick Cassidy player (up to you if you want to call him British ) but the thing we'll miss mostly about Bailey is his professional attitude & leadership. He is clearly one of the main talkers in the team, and somebody like one of the Tomkins' needs to step up and do that role for us when he leaves.

Flannery, because he's never played for Wigan
Both are wastes of cap and quota. I have a feeling Bailey is wasting a lot more cap though, so would stick with Flannery.
My first choice back row next year wouldn't include Flannery, he'd be behind Wilkin, TP, Soliola and Clough. Bailey wouldn't figure either.

Spot on.
Bailey is an important player for Wigan but he shouldn't be in all honesty. He brings an abilty to work hard, tackle all day and be professional but those are things any young, English backrower should be able to do(Mark Flanagan did a very similar job on his full debut on Friday which tells the whole story).
Thats why i'd release him at the end of this season.
Flannary offers pretty much the same.

| Bailey will no doubtedly be fit for the derby. Wigan will need him big time as he is their stand -out player for holding down. He has got the art of holding down in the tackle to prevent quick play the balls down to perfection.

'"
He's the grand master of holding down in the tackle without doubt. On Friday against Leeds when it went to 10-0 we were missing him bigtime for this reason alone as Leeds were carving us up from dummy half.
I don't know how he gets away with it as much as he does but Bailey is a blinder at slowing the play the ball down.

Still, neither Flannery nor Bailey 100k contracts.
I that it was just Wigan that were mugs...

Thats the beauty of Phil bailey..........he does the offences that give penalties away but for some reason doesn't very often get penalised for them.
He's a world class niggler.........the best infact.
