... so how does everybody think its going thinking back to your pre-season thoughts?

I must be honest pre-season I believed it would be very hard for Saints to top the league yet again with the ever closing gap between the teams involved...

Only 3 losses this season, Hull KR which could have gone either way, Bradford where all effort and thought deserted us and against Wigan in Scotland where lets be honest it looked as if we didn't want to be there...

So mid-season awards??

Just off the top of my head

Very happy our team is still top of the pile, even though its an aged team and fallign apart at the seems for 3 years now. Very happy to be in our 9th challenge cup semi final on the row. Nice to be 3 clear of second place.

Cloughie has been a sensaiton for us.
POTTER seems to be doing ok.

A good call that is - can't understand why he's not in the international setup this season.

Its possibly to limit the number of people from each side involved, i think he'll be in the squad at the end of the year.

Well, the jury is still out for me on Mr Potter as our coach. We've looked shakey for quite a lot of this season so far and also we're generally not as enjoyable to watch. That we have lost only three matches I think is lucky because we've certainly not been playing like a league leading side, or at least not the league leading side of the last three seasons anyway. Still, Paul Wellens is on form again, which is great to see!

Best Player - This depends on which part of the season: at one time I would have said Pryce, at another Clough, at another Wellens, yet another Gids. Probably though, for consistency, I'd have to go for Clough.

Under-performer - Long consistently, but others occasionally also

Best Try - Can't think of one in particular but that's probably because I can't remember them all!

Best Tackle - Oh, that has to be James Graham on Bailey after the hoo-ha at Knowsley Road



Best Youngster - Gary Wheeler

Best Game - Both of our encounters with Leeds. They have stood out a mile for me from all the rest of our games.

Most memorable moment - Gateshead. Sun shining, nice chips at a nice pub by the Tyne, friendly Geordies and good banter, and some good rugby with five interceptions that made me wonder how we would cope if Superleage teams decided to adopt that tactic!

It's probably because of the props we have at present eg Jammer Peacock and Burgess, and even Morley is playing well.

Hasnt moz retired from international now? As for him playing well, he seems to be playing AMAZINGLY WELL, and has done for 2 seasons now, him and carvell are a sensation at teh cheshire set club, if they lose them both to injury that team would come to a halt.

Morley's playing for England against France on Saturday.

I'd add Wheeler to the best youngster/rookie, but apart from that agreed.

Given that we always knew this would be the season when we went for youth rather than imports and had pretty much primed ourselves for difficulty I'd say we have exceeded expectations. By some margin. If we can get over the loss of Long next season the only way is up.

Best Try/Tackle - seen a fair number of good ones, but none stand way above the others.

Best Game - Knocking Leeds out at Headingley
Most memorable moment - Plenty involving Big T. Wheeler's step at Wakey was the business also.

I think he's been exceptional. He's our top try scorer aswell.

After letting himself down on tour I expected a big response this season. I've not seen it.

I must be watching a different Pryce. After a poor World Cup and the distraction of a court case, he's having a great season in my book.

He's already equalled last season's try tally of 12 and he's almost equalled last season's try assists.

What? He's having a great season! He was especially fab when Long was injured, just in the midst of all the booing and jeering around his court case. He can be seen at every match.

I said, IMO he is underperforming - not playing badly. There is a difference, you know.
