Great news for us. IMO, Wheeler has jumped the gun with respect to where the club expected him to be this year in terms of development. It's highly unusual for a junior to be similarly assured of himself during the rookie season. Most kids have a hard enough time adjusting to the pace and physicality of SL without thinking about anything else. It's during the second and third (and in some players' cases - fourth) season - when positions are more or less certain - that they start expressing themselves to maximum capability. Wheeler has done this since day one.
The last player I saw promoted from the academy who looked this assured was Cunningham.

Interesting analysis.
I think Wheeler's main strength is his attitude. He relishes the chance to prove himself wherever selected, and has done so with aplomb.
He looks as though he works hard in training.
Although as for assuredness, I'd say you have overlooked Cloughy  |

Bold statement but not without its merits. Has looked confident and skillful and has the raw potential to push on from here to regular first grade footie. |

Clough did the basics well in his first season, but beyond that little else. It's taken two/three years for us to see a better representation of the player, although the short ball work he demonstrated in the academy has still yet to materialise. |

That seems to be a theme at Saints this season. Comment was made on Ashurst's attitude when the deal was offered to him. It seems like Saints are looking for a certain, er, attitude!
Wheeler is grounded, which is definitely A Good Thing IMO. |
