| Pryce has a massive England future and i think everybody knows that.
I'm not sure it'll be at stand off anymore though.

| What a daft article.
he has to have an England future he is one of the most talented and dangerous English players about.
Sure he didn't play well at the world cup but who did?
It's just Smith trying to flex his muscles and scare people!

It is a waste of reporting, like saying Thurston has a future in aus!

Who will be then?
McGuire has been less effective in the games he's played (at least Pryce has actually [ihad[/i good games for GB) and there is no one else within a mile of them currently.

McGuire rightly or wrongly imo.
He did well in the semi against NZ and has been picked ahead of Pryce in the Elite squad. Smith knows him inside out and will favour him from now on i reckon.
Pryce to play a utility role moving between fullback, centre and stand off from now on imo.

I think for the next year, you'll continue to see Burrow start at 7 but used as the interchange hooker with roby, with McGuire being used as a 7 to Pryce's 6. I think that works pretty well, except Pryce has a poor kicking game and the Leeds lads' kicking is a bit inconsistant.
In two years time, who knows? What with all the Wheelers, Tomkins, Eastmonds and Mylers about, its anyone's guess who'll be top dog.

mcguire has been ok agreed.
but mcguire remembered to turn up for the world cup and was one of only maybe 3 england players who looked anything like good enough at that level
peacock been one and maybe graham(not through lack of effort but looked knackered after sl)

| Pryce ain't your typical stand off. He likes to sit back and drift in and out of games.
He ain't a ball player and not got a kicking game but is lethal with ball in hand.
For pryce to make a impact at stand off he needs a ball playing scrum half that can control the game and make space for pryce to attack.
At the moment England and even saints don't have that type of scrum half which allows pryce to play his normal game.
IMO longs poor form has not helped leons game as he has to get involved in the ball playing to often.
He is a player that don't really suite any postion.

i think what your trying to say is pryce is a runner!! braking tackles and getting through the gap with power and pace is his game.
as ive said before, ando was good a getting pryce running at tierd and or disjointed defences with quick play the ball. in games where the defence is in control or the other team are world class defenders from 1-17 like the aussies pryce offers very little.

| Someone somewhere - was it on Boots'n'All? - suggested recently that one reason why Pryce and Burrow didn't go well in the world cup was because both are spontaneous players whereas what was really needed was one organiser and one spontaneous player working together. That might have been hogwash though, I don't know. What I do know is that when Pryce is allowed/encouraged/free to play to his talent, he is awesome. Perhaps it all boils down to Smith not knowing his world cup team well enough and not being able to bring out the best in the players he had chosen.

if burrow and maggs start in the halves pryce has to play full back!
as said on here i think maggs at 7 and pryce at 6 would work better for england. as you say pryce and burrow are both runners.

| I think Leons future will be at loose forward and if Eastmond/Wheeler are the half backs this will be where he will play.
This provides us with a new dynasty of Roby/Eastmond/Wheeler/Pryce controlling the game in the same manner of Cunningham/Long/Martyn/Sculthorpe.
The only doubt is Eastmond hope is gets to the level of Long.

That's spot on IMO. Pryce is a runner who drifts in and out of games so he needs a scrum half ball player who can control a game.
We all know pryce likes to be ball player but that was Sam burgess balls.

IIRC, they both said it was only a laugh after the game. I could be wrong, but i think there mates away from the field, and it was just a joke.

| To be impartial on this.
I went into the world cup favouring Pryce at standoff, but came out of it thinking he was somewhat limited.
Pryce is excellent at capitalising on a team playing on the front foot, but when faced with a side that wouldnt let England get on the front foot, his game collapsed completely.
Look at Pryces game and you can see its based on broken field running especially from dummy half. He has a long pass, but isnt a play maker, more an offloader in the tackle, and his kicking game is very poor.
A well organised defensive unit merely prevents him running from dummy half and stops him offloading. With that his game is nullified completely.
The Aussies, Kiwis and even PNG managed to do this to him.
Leeds also did a similar thing in the grand final where he was completely anonymous.
For me Mcguire while not outstanding, proved a capable half at international level. He showed that his game is maturing, and he is now more than just a try poacher. He directed the team far better across the park than Pryce, and offered a threat even with a team finding the going tough. In short he played like a standoff.

| Pryce deserves another chance at 6 Imo. He is better than Mcguire.
Pryce was awfull in the word cup but he was also awfull in our last 5 or so games in the Super league last season. I blame it on personal issues.
He is on fire again this season.
What GB lack is a great Scrum Half who can organise a team. Burrows cant do it imo.
