Lomax was our best player today. We are stuffed without him. He's our X factor with the ball.

Possibly so but I can only comment on the games I see (which is admittedly les than yourself, I'm sure). Today he was the only player, ball in hand, that I actually feared. I think it's also fair to remember he's still in the early part of his career and only relatively recently given the fullback berth on a full time basis. I'd have him at Wigan in a shot, despite the fact we have some exciting prospects there ourselves. Like I say, he was your MOM today. Any player that outplays the likes of Roby, Walsh and (on current form) Makinson is doing something right!

I agree mate. His performances are good but i believe Jonny is world class not just great. I do believe he will be one of Saints greatest players.

Support play has been poor lately which is big contrast to early on when everyone wanted the ball.
I seen this loss coming. Brown seen this loss coming as players ain't been pulling their weight.

| Further to a comment I made earlier, I wouldn't mind seeing LMS played in the second row. As people have said, he can be pretty damaging when the pack is already moving forward, but he's completely useless when we're in a tight spot and need to get out of first gear. He just doesn't seem to have the mentality of a top prop to me.
In the second row, though, I think he'd go pretty well. He'd get a chance to use his mobility on the edges, where the defence isn't quite as packed, and we wouldn't be relying on him to get the go-forward started.

| Quote ="Phuzzy"I think this pretty much sums it up. A complete performance from the complete professional. Nathan Brown got it spot on in his post match interview when he said "Sean O'Loughlin took us to school today". From a Saints perspective Lomax was outstanding and comfortably your MOM. To use the old cliché, he didn't deserve to be on the losing side today.'"
To continue the highlight... "far superior to the rest of the players". Sean is, by far the most under recognised player in the league by the fans. Coaches and players past and present in SL have recognised his ability but not so much the fans.

| Quote ="SaintsFan"I didn't get the impression Walsh wasn't working hard. He has a right to expect us to work hard given the nature of the game. He shouldn't need to nanny us into doing the basics, like catching a ball and tackling the opposition. He was also operating with an injured arm. When I first saw him injured in the first half I thought we were going to lose him. He looked in agony. I can't blame him for getting out to our edges. Our forwards were naff all use.'"
Fair Comment. The early knock was severe and he did work throughout the match. It wasn't so much a criticism of him (other than I think there were a few times he chose the wrong option) as his commitment is there for all to see. Its more to do with fans and their inability to praise a perceived poor player when he's had a good game and vice versa. He has been very good for us this year but as we were outmuscled today, I agree there was little he could do on his own....which is perhaps why he should have stuck to a more structured game.
In hindsight, the loss is more to do with our tough last three games compared to the Pie Gobblers's three and there subsequent performance.

Easily your best player, he scared the life out of me every time he touched the ball. It seemed like he could break our line at will, I'm very grateful he had no backup !

Did we have any attacks at all in the second half?

We created plenty of overlaps, but it seemed a team wide initiative that as soon as space was found, the correct thing to do is simply let the ball fall to ground.

Same here. The ease with which that first try was scored after Green dropped off him in the tackle had me seriously nervous!

| Just got back from my holidays, is the game worth watching? From what I've read, senior players let us down and there was a lack of passion. Anything else to add to that?

The first half is ok although it'll leave you feeling frustrated at our defensive ineptitude but I really wouldn't bother with the second half. You'll just walk out of the room in disgust! Put it this way, anyone with even half a life has a better way to spend 40 minutes than watching Saints playing at their most incompetent.

| Offside from kickoff and knocking on from kickoff pretty much sums it up for us. Enthusiasm and aggression beat us again, as it has more often than not with Wane in charge. He can get them up for a derby, whereas it seems Brown can't. Average players with a bit of fire and motivation, that's all, something we can't match on derby day.

Off side at this kick off was a joke. I hate it when a ref gives that. If they give it once they have to do it every time and most teams are off side from the kick offs.

On this occasion though Silverdud couldn't ignore it because Richards was a mile offside. He was so offside it was ridiculous.

I just think it's a joke. If your 1m or 2m offside it's still offside. Every team is offside on kick offs but it's never given. I think silverdud was just being petty.

It was pretty hilarious given his reluctance to give penalties for offside generally. Wigan exploited his weakness to the max, not bothering to go back to the ref and setting off early as well. There were so many examples of horrendously blatant offsides, including one where a Wigan forward set off with his hand planted on the referee, one where the ref couldn't see the play the ball as there were Wigan players directly in front of him and one where he told a couple of Wigan players to get back because they were offside, only for them to charge through and make the tackle and he didn't give the penalty.
It's something we need to do as a club. If the referee isn't giving penalties for offside, be offside all the time and he'll continue to not give penalties.

| I just took it as the refs being under a little fan pressure to not give anything to Saints for the next few games.
You tend to find when people independence is called into question they will go above and beyond to show they are not trying to favour one side. It will be like this for a little while until some other side becomes the refs supposed bias and then that side will get a more microscopic examination of their game and then the playoffs will kick in and the refs and fans will settle down and not be so up tight about refs and more about the players.

That use to happen when we had Ganson on our games, rather than favour us most of the time he would over officiate us to make absolutely sure he wasn,t bias.
For some reason Ian Smith always seemed to be biased against, his history of disallowing our trys or finding a way to penalise us was horrendous.
