| If foster ain't ready and big enough to play then he shouldn't play.
The is no point having the kid kick few goals if the is a risk of him shipping in trys.
We are ok when eastmond is back.

| Let's be honest - we've been tugging on fate's tail for years over not taking kicking seriously enough. If Wellens is the best kicker amongst the rest I'd hate to see the worst.

| Just watched the super league show.
wellens pretty much single handedly lost you the game.
Aside from missing 5 kicks he laid a try on a plate for atkins and bombed a try just before halftime.
You could see the torture in his face after each missed kick, gradually get worse until head in hands at the final hooter.
He must hate potter.

He had a poor game, no doubt about it.
But some of our fans need to wind their necks in. We were a digrace after losing to Salford, then we had the greatest young players in the history of the game when we won last week.
Given the team we had out, I thought we did very well and were unlucky not to take the game. That's life.

He also won many cup matches for us, numerous MOM, man of steel etc etc. So having a bad game in tricky conditions pales in comparison in what he has achieved for his home town club.

The situation the club finds itself in at the moment regarding injuries in the pivotal positions (and a possible ban for KC) means that the games over the next few weeks could well be very, very close run affairs. For that we need a goal kicker to at least offer us the chance of turning a try in to 6 points.

Yes, well, we all knew that anyway.
When I watched the conversion attempts back on TV it confirmed what I thought at the match itself: that he wasn't that far off with most of those kicks. He got the height and the length and he was just a shave away from the correct side of the posts. Without the wind, he may have managed some of them. He's definitely improved in his kicking. If he keeps practising, who knows? He may rediscover the kicking form I heard he had when he was in the academy and that would be a real bonus.
It doesn't help us for Friday, obviously, but it may be something for the future.

| I did someone saying Wello used to be pretty deadly with his kicking, but you've got to wonder what psychological issues he may have with it now after Friday.

That must have been a long, long time ago because I have never ever seen Wello show anything like half decent kicking for the Saints at SL level.
Worse kicker than Bernard Dwyer. Perhaps he has the same problem giving the kicking duties to someone else as he does with passing the ball at times...

Yes, I am thinking the same way myself. A damn shame he was left to take all of them. He was so very close with some of them too.
I hope Potter and his team mates encourage him to keep practising and to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible, maybe having a go at the odd one now and again so that he can hopefully rebuild his confidence. Either that or he just practises from now on and leave actual kicking until next season, when the memory of Friday won't be quite as fresh in everyone's mind.

I think his kicking has improved this season. He is getting further when he kicks off under the posts, for instance. I noticed that a few weeks back. Also, those kicks on Friday were a helluva lot better than the last attempts he made, which came nowhere near the posts. If that is what he has achieved on the back of a single week's practice (nowhere near enough IMO for a match), then who is to say what he could do with more practice in varied conditions?
I just hope he hasn't wrecked that dodgy knee by kicking.

| Fridays performance highlighted a problem (goal kicking) we have suffered for years and got away with for the most part.
We will address this. A number of the young backs coming through can kick goals.
Why we didnt go for it when we had the momentum and wakey had been beaten last minute the week before still baffles me.
It wasnt a kick under the posts and he had missed 5.
For me the more worrying aspect was with wellos match performance again.
His performances have deteriorated over the last two seasons and especially this season when gidleys absence makes our backs look distinctly average we need him to be at the top of his game.
Soliola and hopefully some of our young uns will address some of this BUT we probably need to look at another full back a season or two sooner than we would have hoped.
His lack of pace has always been an issue but when yards are harder to make with the slower play the ball a quicker return is essential.
For me though he isnt nearly the player he was 2 years ago and perhaps time is catching up with him rather than him continuing in his prime.
He`ll be 30 at the beginning of next season and has played 10 years at the top.

Do you think so? I think his performances this season have been better than last (with one or two exceptions, but that seems to be the case for most of our players this season).

Wheeler or Lomax or Ellis or Foster or maybe even Wellens if he puts in the practice!
We could end up having more kickers than we know what to do with next season. Wouldn't that be cool?

| You can't blame a part-time kicker for missing them. Another day and he may well have kicked 3 or 4.
It's weird how sometimes teams have only one kicker at the club and other times seem to have almost endless options - Leeds have Sinfield, Burrow, Smith and Gibson, with the very dodgy McGuire (first choice kicker for GB in one game ) if all else fails.

Exactly, plus noone would have been more gutted to have missed those kicks, he bleeds (quite often) for the Vee. Realistically Kyle will be back next week so the kicking job will go to him. No major panic needed, on to landan !

| I don't think anyone is seriously blaming Wellens. If they are they need their heads examining. The thing I find surprising is how few games we've lost since Scully finished being our regular (and surprisingly good) kicker. The truth is we've rode our luck and, for the most part, it's paid off.
