The Salford stadium work is reported to have started, and that construction/design was scaled down and they are saying 2012!

Salford havent even got planning permission to build a stadium yet.
All they are doing is moving mud on a field. This is to give fools (eg the RFL) the impression of a stadium being built.
Check on Salford planning portal however and you will see that the planning application to build a stadium is yet to be approved.

Why not?
A 50-60 weeks build period for a stadium, is more than reasonable.

Outline planning permission has been granted, I have no doubts with Piel Holdings, look at the job they did on The Trafford Centre! are you just trying to be gloomy about another rugby league club for the sake of it?

Outline is not full planning permission.
They have to go through the full bureaucratic process and fulfill any preconditions the council set before construction commences.
Hence Salford can look forward to having to do surveys for Foxes dens and Badger sets and birds nests etc.
In addition they need to submit acceptable traffic surveys and travel plans.
This all takes time, as has been shown by the slow progress at Saints.
Hence why Salford are talking about a 2012 completion date.

Having a daily view of the works underway at Salford's ground then absolutely guaranteed that they will not be doing any further surveys for newts etc. The Site is cleared and before those works go ahead the surveys have to be done.
If you have outline planning you will just make a discharge of conditions submission to fulfil planning requirements.

Sorry but that isn't true. Outline planning only approves in principle building a stadium on that piece of land. Once outline permission is granted, you have to submit a further full planning application (if you want the technical term its called a reserved matters application) before full permission is approved. As far as i know that is what Castleford now need to do before they can progress any further with their proposed stadium. I thought however that Salford had now submitted an application for full planning permission as the design and stadium details have changed significantly. Whichever type of application they have submitted it will come with conditions that will have to be subsequently discharged in the exact same way as the Saints application before any building works can start.

Thanks for correcting me. You have to give Salford credit though it's one hell of a 3D CGI fly-through they've erected on the site to give the impression to everybody driving over Barton Viaduct on the M60 the impression that works have started. It certainly puts Gruntfuttock's photos to shame.
I will try to spot the joins in the screens on my way past tonight.
ps a reserved matters application is not a full planning application of you want to be picky on terminology. It is a application to discharge the conditions contained in the outline permission. You are not applying for permission as you already have it.

Let's just wait and see which ground gets completed first!!!!!
There is another development that keeps having problem with delays, the former Liverpool International Garden Festival site, remember that in 1984! there have been talks and date announcements over and over again that work will be starting soon, the last in February this year, the developers oh could it be the same as in St Helens!

| Why has McMannus said it is a 50 week build when Colquitt said it was a 60 week build.
What's changed?
Have they also factored in the two week Christmas break for the construction industry?
I was away last week for the Catalan v Wigan game, so didn't hear the Radio Manchester interview.

Colguitt did say it was a 60 week build, but said the contractors said all going well, 52 weeks should see it built.

| 52 weeks from when? The access road isn't even finished yet, the old UG warehouses are still standing(or are they been left there as a reminder of your current ground?) With the best will in the world it will not be ready for July 2011...FACT.
It's fairly apparent that more groundworks have been done for the Salford build than the St.Helens one

Complete rubbish.
Lets get a few things straight.
1. Salford as yet dont have full planning permission, until they do no stadium can be built
2. Access roads for Salfords stadium need to be built before planning permission will be granted in full. As yet the access roads havent been built.
3. The mud moving going on now at Salford is in some respects equivalent to the demolition work done on Saints stadium site about 9 months ago.
4. Saints stadium is planned to open in 2011. Salford themselves say their stadium will only be open in 2012 at the earliest.
5 You cannot state as FACT that saints ground wont open by July 2011 , until that period has passed and a stadium isnt complete you are merely talkign about supposition

Au contraire, the mud moving as you so eloquently put it is further in advance in terms of preparation to what has been done at yours.
You dont need full planning permission to move mud, I never mentioned anything about planning permission in any case just the state of ground works..
Given the stadium you're intending to have will take 13 months(at best) to actually build which doesn't allow for delays plus any handover period etc will mean your stadium won't be ready for July 2011. Simple logistics & mathmetics really. So your definition of open means it will be officially ready to have paying supporters attend, having some portaloos & a few deckchairs in one of the stands doesn't count as ready
In any case why rush, the season will be virtually over, you'll have to plan to play all your home league games away because suppositioning that the stadium will be ready on an exact date just isn't going to be a reality. Also the RFL wont not issue you with a license plus it'll give the newly laid pitch a good while to settle down so you dont have any Wembley type problems.

| I really love these supporters of other teams, (they have to be with all the negativity) trying to wind people up with their FACTS and saying for certain that it WONT be finished on time, I said earlier in this thread, it could come in ahead of time, or it could over run, The FACT is none of us know , we are ALL just speculating, some people for reasons of their own, some people because they dont want to be disappointed, watch and wait is all we can do and having pointless arguments with Salford supporters about whos stadium is being built quicker than whose is a waste of time
