The grapevine still isn't putting any names forward for the stadium contractor.

That's because there is no contractor yet. The people doing the appointing said "call back in two weeks".

McManus has just said on the radio that the contractor has now been appointed and a detailed announcement will be made next week, with work starting immediately from that point. He also confirmed we're in advanced talks with Widnes about playing there before we move in around July next year.

Well obviously. We were supposed to be able to see 3D flashy plans in February and yet we are still waiting. I won't be holding my breath for a 'detailed announcement' next week.

The club got their fingers burned last time - that is clear, and the fact that rather than speculating the Chairman has announced live on the radio that the contractor has been signed up means the club are certain the hold ups to the build start are over.

It was the Chief Executive who made a statement last time, if I remember correctly, and on the Saints website, which is live enough given that probably only Saints fans really care.

He was quoted on the website yes, i've never said he hasn't, I've also heard him live in interviews on the radio but again clearly he was only speculating as a contractor hadn't been appointed, it was always "appointed in the next few weeks".... Unfortunately he had his fingers burned due to delays with Langtree and certain pre conditions (available to see on the planning portal) and the club has probably kept quiet to avoid further embarrassment and frustration.

The fact that the chiarman stated that a contractor IS now signed up is no longer speculation, delays must have been overcome, pre conditions must have all been passed - it is a whole different scenario saying someone has officially signed a contract for the build than saying one will be announced shortly.

As for the in for next July/August that is speculating and remains to be seen!

My point wasn't about the contractor, though. It was about the reliability of announcements from Saints. We fans never did get the opportunity to see the 3D plans, did we? I'll believe it when I hear/see it so far as the stadium is concerned!

Oh, and Billinge Lump, how do you know that Saddened! is joking? Some people cover their feelings with humour to fool others you know. It could be that Saddened! is really quite gloomy underneath.

You completely missed the point about the club keeping quiet after having their fingers burned with "speculation". This time the club have waited until its been made official before commenting, hopefully delays will be a minimum from here on in.

My point was about the club following through on its announcements. Since it did not do so on more than one occasion, not just the plans, I am skeptical that it will do so this time. Fingers burned goes both ways.

I would be very happy for Saints to follow through this time. My faith in their announcements will then be restored. It really isn't an issue but, as a sheep, if you wish to bleet about it, please don't let me stop you.

Why am i a sheep , when i drive past the stadium site every day and SEE things happening, have you not noticed the pictures on this thead (the reason for the thread by the way) , however if is makes you happy to call people shep when they disagree with your views then fine , it gets very boring when all we get in this thread are people saying "i wil beleive it when i see it" take a look at the site, they arent playing sandcastles they are preparign the site NOW.

It may be boring but there have been a number of announcements made by the club that have not been followed through so it's not really surprising that people are skeptical when yet another announcement is promised, is it? I really don't see why you are so upset about people being skeptical in this context.

Lets just slap some sticks together in the middle of an unprepared bit of land and hope it all goes ok...

3D plans are a waste of money once planning has been approved plus with the architect no longer working on the project it would have been even more expensive to procure them.

Once the builder gets appointed I'm sure he'll get his architect to knock up some "artist's impressions" of what they are going to build for inclusion on publicity/advertising for selling season tickets for next season etc.
