The is a lot of doom and gloom by saints fans with the new stadium.
I know for a fact it WILL happen and the the contract has been granted and it's a matter of putting pen to paper.

When the ground work starts it will still look as if nothings being done but beleive me, builds these days fly up.

I was on the site on Thursday and all is in place for the ground works to start.

I don't think anyone is even thinking of saying, it will not happen, just when, if as you say it is just the pen that needs putting to paper, I have plenty of Parker Pens, I will drive over and lend them to whoever is going to sign!

A constant complaint I keep hearing is from the people of Eccleston, who claim? that a large majority of the loyal supporters and crowd come from that area and they walk to the ground, will they drive every week to the new ground this is to be seen, When the Sky money first started money should have been invested in Knowsley Road if only a stand at a time!being built and replaced IMO,

As far as builds fly up, yes they do, but it all depends what type of build, one like Warrington bought from Ikea in a flat pack, but the superb "initial" drawings seen which were impressive, may take longer! I wonder what it will look like in the end? will it be completely closed all round.

Jaybs, I think I'm correct in saying it will be precast from the ground up, the only precast place that is local that could make what's needed is tayban in Bolton. Maybe the precast is done and ready to be moved over when the ground works done?

My only concern with the time scale is if the ground needs to be piled, I heard it did but it may not be true. If it's a matter of base holes and footings it won't take long at all to get the foundations in.

If I'm being honest I can't see saints in there to very late in the season or in it at all. Sure enough it the building can be thrown up but then the is still other parts that take time.

Pete, seeing as there are very large warehouses on the site now, that have had thousands of tons of whatever in them, would this not have shown up any faults that are uderground.

No, not really. These previous buildings will have been built many years ago and it's obvious that a lot of things will have changed in how things are done now. Also the new ground will not sit on direct where these old buildings stood.

The ground can change all over the site. I do housing sites where some of the site is ok for normal foundations but some need piles.

I think it's skepticism rather than doom and gloom. Bearing in mind there has been talk about a new stadium at Saints for what? 30 years? And we're still in Knowsley Road. I think many fans (most fans?) will only believe it when they actually see it, simply because there has been so much talk for so long. On top of that we've recently had a major recession and as others have said, Saints have promised big but delivered nothing of late, which offers justification for fans who feel skeptical.

new sunday update










things are starting to come together

Well arent you a tos$er.

Has something happened during the week? I'm trying to spot the differences ...

Some sort of work has started on the footbridge over the link road, there is a crew there this morning drilling.

obviously had lots of practise at being one

its mainly the road infrastructure that is growing also :

My Wife went up earlier to get some pictures of people working to put al your minds at rest , and they were all on break !!! , as she was stood there in the pouring rain with nothing to photograph , a nice young man came up and started chatting, seems he was one of the guys from Birse, apparently they are 6 weeks AHEAD of shedule and they estimaate they will be done by the end of Oct , they plan to start laying tarmac in the next couple of weeks , snd the street lighting shortly after that ,so that is good news , he had no idea when the builders where actually going in , and there are a pair of kestrels nesting in the corner of the site, so they cannot disturb them till the eggs have hatched, might be a delay there, but all in all sounds good.

OK here are some pictures taken today to prove to the sceptics amongst us that there are actually some people working on the site, oh and the tarmacers are arriving tomorrow

I would like to ask a serious question ? looking from where the pics are taken (from the retail pk) where will the ground be located and will tesco be in the background where cars are going past like at wire.

Blimey, didn't think the toilets would be in so quick. Can't believe they've took the ones from Knowsley Road, though - thought we were getting new ones

The picture above your posting, is of the warehouse that faces the link road and the retail park, Tesco will stand in front of this warehouse and partly on it, the Tesco yard will extend behind this warehouse onto the next warehouse.
There will be a little alley after the Tesco yard then the stadium will start with a "cop end" nearest the Tesco yard followed by the two main stands ending with the other "cop end" facing the main stadium entrance at Peasly Cross lane. Tesco wont be as long as the warehouse though.

Yes as the doghead says the stadium is going in the far left hand corner of the site, behind the tescos store

You even got one of the builders to pose for you!

My wife took the pictures , she was talking to him , and one of the two guys behind the fence was shouting Come on WIgan, but she treatened to sort him out and he denied being a fan



Oh and there was a tarmac machine onsite this morning

Tarmac has been layed around some of the roundabout area today!!!! come on!
