I would say so, nto seen the kid since his outing at Widnes in the pre seaon friendly. Were not spending and realying on the youth to take us forward for the future, so lets get the kid a gig. If we carry on with injuries we will have no a-team left as they all be in the big league

| Saints are in the top 3 for goals in superleague if anybody wants to know.
If they were in the bottom 3 and losing games I'd be worried. Wait till we thrash someone and Eastmond kicks 10 goals in the match.....it will all be a distant memory then

Thats not what we need! Thats the whole point in the thead!
We need to kick goals in the close games, not when we thrash teams by big scores.

Like I said, personally I,m not too worried at the moment, think this is the first time we have lost a match this season because we havn't kicked enough goals. Don't think we have had a high percentage goal kicker in all thirteen years of superleague.
The "entertainers tag" is slipping at the moment, once we get to full strength and in form then it will be business as usual.

Agreed...well as far as SL goes.....apart from the Wigan or Great Britain side when Radlinski was playing
even in his pomp he'da been made to look daft in the NRL IMO

I don't think Foster will play. From the pre season at Widne, it was clear that he needed a bit more size.
Not suggesting that all modern day players need to be popeye, because that has been one of the reasons the Aussie backs are so superior, but Foster still looks like a young sapling.

I fully agree with that, it makes me wonder if those who keep calling for him to be played have actually seen him.
The only thing is, if Meli is missing along with all the other injuries, who's left?

Ellis? There's also Armstrong (on Meli's wing).

Ellis on the wing? Is he fast enough?
I'd forgotten about Armstrong though, he'd be a more obvious choice.
I suspect Ellis may have to be utilised somewhere in the middle, at hooker perhaps.

| How anyone can blame Wellens is beyond me. You're all a disgrace, those of you who do.
He can't kick goals for 5h!t and the only person to blame is Potter for picking a 17 without a player who can kick a goal.
Wellens does not constitute an able kicker and never has. You put a kicker on the field even if it weakens your 17 overall because you can't win a game without converting a single try so all wakey had to do was keep us wide every score which they did. Kear well and truly did his homework on us.
0/6 with the boot and you can only blame Potter for that. Fact is we had no cutting edge in the second half near the line and Wakey defended like Trojans on their own line.
They deserved it, well played Wakey. Pains me to say it all the same.

You just have cover Foster up in defence. That's all and make the best of it. He can kick goals from anywhere, get him in I say. That is unless Eastmond is fit again.
When you are converting 75% plus of your tries it makes us nearly unbeatable cos we are top of the league still with the worst kicker in the comp statistically(Long). It says it all.

| If foster ain't ready and big enough to play then he shouldn't play.
The is no point having the kid kick few goals if the is a risk of him shipping in trys.
We are ok when eastmond is back.

| Let's be honest - we've been tugging on fate's tail for years over not taking kicking seriously enough. If Wellens is the best kicker amongst the rest I'd hate to see the worst.

| Just watched the super league show.
wellens pretty much single handedly lost you the game.
Aside from missing 5 kicks he laid a try on a plate for atkins and bombed a try just before halftime.
You could see the torture in his face after each missed kick, gradually get worse until head in hands at the final hooter.
He must hate potter.

He had a poor game, no doubt about it.
But some of our fans need to wind their necks in. We were a digrace after losing to Salford, then we had the greatest young players in the history of the game when we won last week.
Given the team we had out, I thought we did very well and were unlucky not to take the game. That's life.

He also won many cup matches for us, numerous MOM, man of steel etc etc. So having a bad game in tricky conditions pales in comparison in what he has achieved for his home town club.

The situation the club finds itself in at the moment regarding injuries in the pivotal positions (and a possible ban for KC) means that the games over the next few weeks could well be very, very close run affairs. For that we need a goal kicker to at least offer us the chance of turning a try in to 6 points.

Yes, well, we all knew that anyway.
When I watched the conversion attempts back on TV it confirmed what I thought at the match itself: that he wasn't that far off with most of those kicks. He got the height and the length and he was just a shave away from the correct side of the posts. Without the wind, he may have managed some of them. He's definitely improved in his kicking. If he keeps practising, who knows? He may rediscover the kicking form I heard he had when he was in the academy and that would be a real bonus.
It doesn't help us for Friday, obviously, but it may be something for the future.

| I did someone saying Wello used to be pretty deadly with his kicking, but you've got to wonder what psychological issues he may have with it now after Friday.

That must have been a long, long time ago because I have never ever seen Wello show anything like half decent kicking for the Saints at SL level.
Worse kicker than Bernard Dwyer. Perhaps he has the same problem giving the kicking duties to someone else as he does with passing the ball at times...

Yes, I am thinking the same way myself. A damn shame he was left to take all of them. He was so very close with some of them too.
I hope Potter and his team mates encourage him to keep practising and to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible, maybe having a go at the odd one now and again so that he can hopefully rebuild his confidence. Either that or he just practises from now on and leave actual kicking until next season, when the memory of Friday won't be quite as fresh in everyone's mind.

I think his kicking has improved this season. He is getting further when he kicks off under the posts, for instance. I noticed that a few weeks back. Also, those kicks on Friday were a helluva lot better than the last attempts he made, which came nowhere near the posts. If that is what he has achieved on the back of a single week's practice (nowhere near enough IMO for a match), then who is to say what he could do with more practice in varied conditions?
I just hope he hasn't wrecked that dodgy knee by kicking.
