Kylie is better than scruton and dowes(dowes I like alot), kylie is as good as carvell but less injury prone. Morley is the only player who would walk into the Leeds team as he would any team in the world probably.
before scruton left Leeds in the 08 season bailey blew scoots away stats wise and you all think bailey is crap. Bailey played less games made more tackles and more meters from less carries and gave away fewer penalties! (one of tvocs little stat gems that shut a lot of bulls fans up when they bought him)
Burgess is better than scruton and dowes and will be better than carvell.
the Leeds props(jp 6, bailey 4, kylie 3, burgess 1) have 14 gf rings between them, those 4 you named have 2. al stick with what we have thanks! we also have Beastwood, kirke, pitts, amor and ambler proping too.
out of the list I named all of those are better than fozzard imo
shows how desprate you were are as a club, wakey picked up tronc, kr picked up Clinton, both top gun props. Even cas picked up Jackson who is better than fozzard. Now this is a bit desprate but I would probably take danny sculthorpe over fozzard and that's saying something, and you missed out on him en all.

Ah well we can agree to disagree. kylie, bailey, burgess and kirkie have had no problem owning all who come before them in becoming back to back to back champs! your pack been at the top of that list. You fail to see that rugby league is a game where one weak link can cost so dear(see Francis meli) kylie, bailey, kirkie and burgess have all been a key part to the unrivaled Leeds success in the salary capped era of the sport

We're building a new stadium and so we're cheap just now, not desperate. We needed help for Jammer who had carried the pack all by himself the previous season and Foz would have been cheap as chips. He wasn't my choice of signing, that's for sure, but he takes some of the pressure away from Jammer.
You'll know about cutbacks when you're forced into rebuilding that dump of a ground you have or relaying that so-called pitch.

| I'm looking forward to Soliola to be fit to hopefully add a bit of punch to the pack. If we had fewer injuries in the backs, I'd also experiment with moving Meli into the back row in the 2nd half to add more punch (like we used to with Freddie).

Let's not turn this into a bitch fest, now. Saints fans are crying out for another prop, so you don't need to point that out.
As far as the other players mentioned go, I've always rated Kylie highly, although I don't think a lot of people do.
Burgess i really like as he does some impressive stuff, but I get the feeling (and Leeds fans will clarify this) he has some silly mistakes in him
Bailey? A modern day Roy Powell for me, keen tackler, but doesn't offer an awful lot going forward. IIRC when you look at his stas in relation to other players, his tackle count is very high compared to his carries, which raises some questions. A good club man who won't let you down and probably doesn't rock the boat with salary negotiations.
Regarding players who've moved on - well, props do mature later, Carvell (now), Anderson (before he retired) and even the Fozzard of 2-3 years ago would all be a fine addition to Leeds current playing staff, but being able to hold on to young reserve props in case they develop later is a difficult situation to manage.

True. We've never replaced Baloo, and despite the hype we've missed him a lot more than we've missed Lyon.
It's true what you say about props not being easy to come by, but it seems to me that Potter doesn't see the position as a priority. I'd have been much happier if we'd have let Wheeler play at left centre and spent the Soliola cash on somebody like Tronc.

Too right.
I haven't, however, lost hope in Potter using Soliola in the back row and Wheels in the centre, which will add some size and power to the pack over and allow us to play TP solely at prop.

Props win Pots (TM*). With a good pack you'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season (barring bad luck with injuries). In the NRL/ARL it was common to see the main players in the playoff shakeup having huge packs with sometimes modest sets of backs.
If your front row is blasting shells through the advantage line, you don't need to be the greatest back in the world to exploit them.
In my book, unless you've got some world-beater on your hands at scrum half or full back it's wise to throw a hefty chunk of the salary cap allocation on 5 quality props who will never let you down. If it means you're short of money to buy backs - buy CHEAP ones, or bring them in from the academy.
With a big, mobile pack you're putting the opposition at a twenty to thirty yardage disadvantage each set. Perhaps more if you've got a good kicker. Force any side to begin with the ball that far back and they're going to cough up sooner or later. Then you let your newly-signed yardog Scott Naylor-wannabee go to work on the remnants of their defensive line.
* Keep your thieving hands off my creations. That means YOU, Saddened.

We've been trying to get a new ground for about 30 years. St Helens Council for most of that time has put barriers up. McManus got them onside, possibly because they finally reaslied that pretty much the only thing left of any worth at all in St Helens now is the Saints so paving the way to a new stadium may actually be beneficial to the town. I doubt very much the Council would have allowed us to rebuild the stadium at its present location because since it was first built a sizeable residential area has grown up around it and there isn't even enough space to build a car park. Locations for new stadia are not everywhere and the one we have found is simply too big for Saints to go it alone so until the Council, the NWDA and Tesco all came in together to redevelop the site we would have been able to go nowhere. I'd say Mr McManus has had an awful lot to do with making the stadium project happen (assuming it is actually going to happen, it being somewhat quiet on the stadium front at present).
I would imagine Saints' spare cash goes into just keeping Knowsley Road in safety certificates these days so until the new stadium is up, naff all is going to be done with the old girl bar necessary patchups.

I have to agree with this. Hopefully we can sign a top class prop from Down Under. Starting the New Prop with Graham and having Maurie and Puletua of the bench will be a strong looking front row with whoever starts at 9 which IMO should be Roby with Moore of the bench. Thats my opinion and personally I think we should have gone for Morley when he wanted to come back home from Australia.
