I agree, we've not been good enough to get to a final, and it would have felt undeserved, but its the way that the defeat happened that I find difficult to overcome. I'd have preferred a comprehensive defeat against an on form Wire tonight. The consolation being that it would expose our shortcomings and show those in charge the recruiting that needs to be done, and I'd much prefer to spend my time doing that than sitting here feeling unsatisfied and hard done to. Cunningham and McManus will feel the same, and that is no good for our fans.

| It should be a compliment that we're micky taking. It means a big deal to turn you over in that way and goes some small way to avenging those losses in the naughties. It's nice to see the tide turn against one of our greatest rivals and most successful clubs and that's supposed to be a compliment.

good post. I think you r about 3 or 4 players off being in a final again.
Wilkin is finished. I think Walsh is getting to the end of his career. Thought Roby had a shocker tonight.

| Saints fans should console themselves with the knowledge that they got this far by virtue of their teams fabulous skills, tactics, fitness, coaching, teamwork and exemplary adherence to the offside and play the ball rules, with no benefit of 50/50 calls, benefit of the doubt, luck or benevolence of the officials. Not only this but you have bravely and with complete dignity overcome the fact the RFL, Salvation Army, Cub Scouts and Bramley Ladies Knitting Circle are openly in cahoots against your club.
Thank goodness you are the torch bearers for all that remains good about our game, I doff my primrose and blue bobble hat to you.

Roby's the new Rooney I think. He's played too many 80 minutes over the seasons, often carrying us, and on top of his drive, now we're looking to him to be creative in a team so short of flair. He's trying to do the work of a forward and a scrum half and he's over extended and looks jaded.

There's truth in that comment: Oh how I used to love the nervous anticipation of returning to my car after any match at yours in the last twenty years or so (barring a couple of years) to see what damaged had been inflicted.

| At the end of the day one had to stand and one had to fall, despite a few iffy decisions Saints weren't good enough and played very negative Rugby league.

A bit harsh to compare Roby to Rooney, Roby still has some mileage, whereas Rooney is finished full stop.

Very harsh for Peyroux's try, but by the letter of the law there was no conclusive shot of the ball being grounded.
Saints not penalised once for have players in front of the ref in the defensive line, time and time again.'"

it wouldnt as they ground it put, its not about being the best team its about who can execute the game plan the best and play the numbers. Saints were never given a chance as the ref was pinging them for everything.

| Few 50/50's went our way but aside from that we were the better team. You didn't get out of your own half for the first 30odd minutes and struggles with our kick chase. in the second half you were awarded 4 repeat sets in our 10m and came up with nothing. Was that Thaler's fault as well?
As for the refereeing Saints spent 80% offside at the play the ball, flopped on nearly every tackle, lying on, LMS leaving the scrum before the ball had even been fed at one point... Walsh once again showed how below average he is again, if it doesn't go all his own way in the first 20 minutes he goes well and truly missing. Wilkin is a liability, how Turner has managed an NRL contract is beyond me, he isn't good enough for reserve grade over there, your 'entertainers' tag has gone, wheres the old flair that's was the saints way? very poor attacking rugby. Once Roby hangs his boots up I fear for you even more, its not often you can get an 80 minute hooker with his skill.
on the whole a good close, nail biting game. see yous next season. and lets face it, who would you rather win the final? Yorkshire or the pies? I'd cheer saints on over them two every day of the week.

You didn't get out of your own half for the first 30odd minutes - but yet it was only 2 nill after 25 minutes
In the second half you were awarded 4 repeat sets in our 10m and came up with nothing - you spent 30 minutes in our half didn't you and only had 2 points to show for it. You've kind of gone against your 1st point
Saints spent 80% offside at the play the ball - 80%.... 80% really! Saints made 398 tackles in total, so your saying we was offside for 318 tackles? that equals to 53 sets of 6 btw I very much doubt that
flopped on nearly every tackle - please provide one of your amazing percentages

| well he was. High tackle wasnt high ref and TJ said it wasnt video ref said it was = penalty, Wire were flopping just as much, missed knock ons. Was embarassing. As a neutral last night I was embarassed by the ref. The offsides were terrible for both teams.

| As a neutral, this was my view:
1. Gidley was short when he first hit the ground with the ball and at no point did he ground it on the line or over it.
2. Lineham dropped it.
3. Peyroux grounded it.
The TJ was at at fault for number 2 as he had the best view. Joe Cobb was clearly at fault for 1 and 3. How he didn't notice number 1 is beyond me, and for number 3 not to be a try, Peyroux would have had to have mastered the art of floating just above the ground with at least two grown men lying on his back.
