was limited ages ago like all older grounds. Around 13.5. I was on with 20k+ when we played there in the late 80's (probably more before that but im too young

) and the atmosphere in the away end is the same so apart from revenue I dont think it makes much diff as the older grounds generate better atmospheres.

I think it was for a while till safety work was done on the ground.

I seem to recall at the time the private boxes went in around 1989 the capacity was set at 23,500.Obviously the boxes reduced it a bit and from that time on health and safety became more prominent in the early 90s and it was dropped to 17,300 around 1994,then up to 19,100 in 1996,then down to 15,100 around 2002 and back to 17,500 in 2004 as it is now.KR could still easily hold 20,000+ today but the safety regs rule.

Just think back in time when we had 35,695 for a Wigan derby game on Boxing Day 1952 how squashed must they have been on the terraces.

They have started to close the area where the big screen is situated, will that reduce capacity? or is that counted in the 17500?

Early 1960s, I believe, but there was a wooden structure there before that.

I don't know. I always thought the area near the screen was cordened off anyway? In 2008 we played Wigan on Good Friday and attracted a 17,500 capacity crowd. Last year we got 17,000 for Warrington, so we can clearly reach the 17,500 limit.
