No. The biggest problem is Saints' astonishingly unprofessional attitude to goal kicking.

I have a horrible feeling it will bite us too at some point. We havent had a kicker who wants to kick and is able since Lyon and that's quite scarey really.

But next season la, we'll have Danny Le Brough, Sir Jamie Lyon and this whizband kid Foster so we'll not miss a single goal next season.

It does? To be fair we've got Slong as our kicker who isn't bad. He doesn't miss the easy ones and has been known to slot one over from the touchline now and again.

I personally think we should incentivise the kicking for Longy. Every successful goal kicked means another hour he can leave early at training during the following week.

There is no way Wello's op is major surely? He's able to sprint full pace to outpace McGuire on the outside for his try so he can't be having anything more than a clean out?

It's not though. We put ourselves under undue pressure. And when teams like Leeds go for the possession %, it will come down to drop outs at some point.

The longer we are on our own line, the more likely we are to conceed.

I take your comment to be a criticism of the situation at Saints rather than of Wellens himself.

He probably realises that he is not the best in the world but is still willing to take on the task of the drop outs and goal kicks. Full marks to him.

If there is anyone good enough to fill a regular first team spot and thinks he can do better let him have a go.

On yesterday's performance maybe Wilkin could give it a try. It's not often a player gets 2 40 -20s in a match.

He missed 3, 3/6, the 4 try conversions and 2 penalties, only ones he got where infront or just to the side of the posts.

Yep, it seems strange that we have persisted with Wello as drop out taker - he is inconsistent at best and always has been. Presumably it is because, as he is the full back, the full defensive line can make an immediate chase. But I suspect the benefit from that doesn't outweigh the loss. If you look at most other sides' drop outs they tend to make halfway or thereabouts. We often pitch them on the 30m line.

It's a simple issue of leg strength and distance. Wello doesn't have any. Surely there's someone at the club who can consistently hit the half way line - at the very least.
