Richie Eyres was unlucky that day as I only ever recall Kevin Ward as being sent off for tripping since.

That stuck with me for many many years. Made me giggle for a long time. His dull lifeless voice was even more duler, and even more lifeless that evening.

The sad thing about that game is that Wigan were only marginally less sh[ii[/it than we were. If Widnes had reached the final, they would have murdered Wigan, if they'd played like that.

I don't think anyone who has not seen it can truly comprehend the awfulness of Saints display that day. The 70-0 at Leeds was a sterling effort in comparison.



Nothing will take the memory of that semi-final away though. A fantastically enjoyable game of Rugby League although the naivety of it all wouldn't appeal to the likes of Nathan Brown and Mick Potter.
