He's been mentioned in the rugby league news this week for being a part-time referee who gets to do the Cup final. However, his real claim to fame has to be that he was the referee for the first ever game of professional club rugby league played in Berkshire. And it was also Oxford's first win in the League 1 Cup, so everyone was happy. Here’s a picture where he is just about to award a try:
Touch Judge: Mark Craven (Leeds)

Excluding warm-up matches, no-one has refereed more Oxford games. In 2015 was referee for the Oldham-Keighley play-off game, and also touch judge at England v France.

30/04/2016 - Toulouse 54 Oxford 8 (penalties 7-7)
A bit of a missed opportunity here. His name is obviously quite common and I didn’t make the right connections at the time of the Toulouse game. Shortly after that match it’s been widely reported that he was in the Royal Marines and shot by a sniper. He has also effectively become the poster boy for referee recruitment. Here’s a typical article:

2014 National Conference League referee of the year, following in the footsteps of the likes of Phil Bentham and James Child. In 2015 was the Wigan Referees' Society Referee of the year.

Now this should be part 1 of 2, with part 2 on Thursday night, but at the moment I'm struggling to get the information I need for part 2. So don't hold your breath.
