Preview from All golds website:
The All Golds travel to local rivals Oxford on Sunday looking to end the regular season with a win. After the last round of fixtures this weekend League 1 breaks in two – the top eight teams play each other to decide who gets promoted to the Championship while the bottom seven take part in the Consolation Shield.
The All Golds’ top eight hopes were ended some time ago but head coach Lee Greenwood is hoping to see a performance to match last Sunday’s where his side fell to an agonising one point defeat to seventh placed London Skolars. He said: “ I cannot fault the effort from the lads against London last week. We have been beaten narrowly by all the five teams directly above us in the table. If we could have turned those into wins then we would be in the top eight now but it wasn’t to be. We want to win on Sunday then we’ll take stock of how we approach the rest of the season and set some goals for ourselves. Oxford will be tough and it will have a local derby feel to it. If we are not ready for a physical battle then we will get beat there just like we did last season. They are trying to get more young local lads in their team just like us and it takes time. They will be looking at this game as definitely one they can win though and we will need to perform to get the two points.”
Greenwood hopes to welcome back Harrison Elliott for the game against Oxford. The forward was enjoying a good first season with the Golden Fern before pulling his hamstring against Hunslet on May 22. Irish international Graham O’Keeffe went under the knife this week for anterior cruciate ligament surgery so will not be available for selection until next season.
