ORL will again be running an open trials day to discover new rugby league talent for the 2016 squad on Sunday 1st November at Brookes University, Harcourt Hill campus commencing at 12pm. If you are 18 and over and have a passion for Rugby in Union or League and you want to take your game to the next level, then you are welcome to attend.
Don’t worry if you have no Rugby League experience, the day will consist of skill & agility sessions, basic Rugby League drills and progress through to a series of short game sessions. The day will be led by Head Coach Tim Rumford, former head of Youth Academy and Development at Super league club, Castleford Tigers. Coach Rumford is looking for players that are up for a challenge, are seeking an opportunity to join the professional ranks and test their physical, mental and athletic abilities in the third tier of English Rugby League. The trials day is an important event for the club and potential players, as last year’s trials produced over six players which complemented a further five from previous years.
ORL captain, Andrew Hoggins a product of Southampton Spitfires RL and a first year trialist said “I can recall my trials day, I felt a little nervous at registration but once things got under way everyone was made to feel really welcome and the trial flew by. Some of the senior players and I are looking to help with the day, to advise and chat with players as we go through the process and I’m sure there are lads out there that will be team mates next season.”
