BA = Blue Army
PH = Philip Kingsland
BA = Full name and nickname if you have one ?
PK = Philip Kingsland: Lando, Kingy, Lamboss, Philphy, Raptor.
BA = How long have you been in Rugby League ?
PK = Iv'e seen a photo of when I was 1 years old wrapped in a balmain scarf watching them lose the Grand Final in 89 whilst drinking milk from the bottle. Some things never change hey!
BA = Who have you played played for in Rugby League ?
PK = Forster-Tuncurry Hawks, and more recently Southampton Spitfires
BA = Do you like playing or watching ?
PK = I often get shafted onto the Wing, where you get to do both
BA = What is your best moment in Rugby League ?
PK = Having just graduated University, I immediately boarded a flight from my dusty rural airport in Armidale Australia, and 30 odd hours later I arrived in Cardiff to watch the opening game of the Rugby League World Cup - with just enough time to grab a beer! Great memories!
BA = What is your funniest moment in Rugby League ?
PK = Oxford are losing to Hunslet at Iffley, it's the second half and yet a Blue come back in on the cards. Oxford score twice in a row, and have now been given a scrum 20 out from the Hunslet line. The Hunslet Coach throws his walkie talkie down on the ground and sprints down to the side line screaming... The whole stand was in stitches!
BA = What do you think of Rugby League in England and the south ?
PK = Rugby League in the South is fantastic, because the volunteers are. It's the people who sell the raffle tickets and end up buys half themselves, the ones who run Leagues clubs from their bedroom desks, the guys and girls who literally put back their mortgages to ensure the team buses are still road worthy who are truly taking this sport forward - and the results are really showing.
BA = Why did you become a Rugby League fan ?
PK = The Game has the east coast of Australia by the balls.
BA = How did you become an ORL fan ?
PK = Bulldog has me by the balls!
BA = Were do you see the ORL in the next 5 year ?
PK = I think Oxford are growing faster than anyone actually realises! An extra 20-80 people through the gate on occasion represents the sort of proportionate growth that Super League clubs could only dream about. Therefore, we are on the rise one family at a time. I certainly see Oxford being the best in the south within 2 years.
BA = Do you think you can help raise the profile of the ORL ?
PK = Why not, even from Australia I can still be a member, and will continue to be until I die!
BA = Can you tell us 5 thinks about the Club?
PK = 1. Oxford RLFC are due to feature in a Bollywood production; 2. Blue Army has only been around for 6 months, but already has the best southern travelling support; 3. At least 2x Southampton Spitfires have played for the Blues; 4. I was the first and most recent winner of the 100's Club Raffle, so have turned 5 pounds a month into 250 - everyone should join! 5. Every game against Hunslet is pushing us closer to a win!
BA = What do you think of the ORL Blue Army ?
PK = Brilliant. We are starting to get some southern accents involved now which is the key!
BA = What is it like being part of the Blue Army?
PK = Last week I was invited to a local pub by the blue army completely out of the blue. There they handed me some leaving gifts and bought me a few round of drinks - what a delightful bunch of honest friendly people to be around. A special thanks goes to Bulldog for that.
BA = Is there anything you would like to say to the Club, the players and are supporters?
PK = Yes, thanks for always putting in the effort for all those involved at our great club, and I'll be back in the stand when you least expect it
Thanks Phil for your time.
