| BA = Blue Army
EH = Edward Hayles
BA = Full name and nickname if you have one ?
EH = Edward Nicholas Hayles / "Ed", but that's just my name so not really a nickname. Maybe something else behind my back .
BA = How long have you been in Rugby League ?
EH =I starting playing properly at University. So not that long ago really.
BA = Who have you played and played for in Rugby League ?
EH = After Uni i played a bit for Elmbridge Eagles in London, then in France for Realmont and Lescure d'Albigeois and Gloucester Warriors before Oxford.
BA = Do you like playing/coaching or watching ?
EH = All three. I probably have the most natural talent for watching.
BA = What is your best moment in Rugby League ?
EH = That's tough. Being coached by Wayne Bennett was pretty good and winning the Coupe Lord Derby in France. Playing in a prison in Philadelphia was interesting too, although beating York away this year is pretty tough to beat.
BA = What is your funniest moment in Rugby League ?
EH = I'm with JJ on this one, nothing funny has ever happened in Rugby League. Ever. Seeing Jordan Rice without a shirt is the closest i've got to comedy.
BA = What do you think of Rugby League in the south ?
EH = Sometimes it is very easy to be negative about the growth of the game down South. People forget how recently Rugby League wasn't played in universities, the military, police etc. and how players were banned for playing both codes. It takes time to grow and develop especially in areas with a Union tradition and in an era when people have lots of pressure and competition for their time. I'm proud that we don't have dual reg players and have local players playing, of course that can lead to some difficult results short term but medium/long term it is the way to go. Makes winning as a squad better too.
BA = Why did you become a Rugby League fan ?
EH = I'm terrible at football.
BA = How did you become a ORL player ?
EH = I went to the trial.
BA = What is it like working for the ORL ?
EH = Working? TB, Roddy, Spud, JJ, Holly, Jake, Oz (sometimes), Big Sam, Tessa Roddy and the people behind the scenes. They do all the work. I'm just lucky enough to be able to train and play at what i enjoy doing.
BA = Were do you see the ORL in the next 5 year ?
EH = Who knows. That's why it is interesting and exciting to be involved. Be ambitious though.
BA = Do you think you can help raise the profile of the ORL ?
EH = At the moment, the best way to do that would be to keep being successful so people can't ignore you. I'll leave the other stuff to Spud and help him out if i can.
BA = Can you tell us 5 thinks about the Club?
EH = 1, Yannic Parker dyes his hair ginger in an effort to look like me. 2, The King of Wexford plays for Oxford Rugby League. 3, Oxford Rugby League has an Australian Head Coach. 4, We play at Iffley Road in Oxford. 5, Our Assistant Coach invented Facebook.
BA = What would you like from the ORL Blue Army ?
EH = Cheerleaders?
BA = Is there anything you would like to say to the Club, the player and are supporter ?
EH = I would like to say a massive thank you to the Club for giving me an opportunity to play this year. To the players, sorry for the knock ons etc. To the Blue Army, thanks for all you do as players it great to have that level of support.
Thanks Ed for your time.
