Or because Clare Balding was announcing the nominees.....he's always been her bit of rough
Club announcement says that the majority of the Leeds squad and McDermott will be attending the event so I imagine they'll be highlighted at some point in the show.

Nah, it would have been the English cricket team for the spectacular ashes win, or England football team for going unbeaten in the tricky Euro qualification group, or even England RU for their brave exit from the WC

| With my Rhinos hat on I'd love Kev to win. But in terms of achievement this you can't really top beating Wladimir Klitschko in Germany to become the unified, linear and undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world. Fury should probably win.

Not knocking Fury's win but Deontay Wilder still holds the WBC version, I believe.

He does.
Fury shouldn't be anywhere near Sports Personality. I would have taken most top heavyweights to beat Klitschko on Saturday, he stank the place out. Finally looked the tired old man he is.

I agree with this. Think Fury was the right man at the RIGHT time, a Klitschko of a few years younger age would've defeated him comfortably. It was a poor bout and people get misty eyed over the heavyweight division in boxing because of past greats but it's been one of the dullest weight divisions going for a while now.
As for Murray, as I've mentioned before his exploits have been massively over exaggerated. It's all well saying it's been 70+ years since the last win but really Murray has only really been committed to that tournament for about 2-3 years and he's won it already and he didn't beat anyone of real top quality to do it. In the final he beat the world number 16 and world number 100+ for his single points.....hardly the toughest scalps and he always faced guys he was ranked well above of.
Hamilton, meh the Mercedes is so far ahead of its rivals it was always a two horse race against a guy who has never really looked like being a World Champion
So out of the other main contenders if I take Sinfield out of the equation I'd go for Jessica Ennis-Hill.

..and Fury's previous 'scalp' was Dereck Chisora - lol.
Come back when he's beaten Klitschko for a second time, Wilder and Ortiz.
That said, SPOTY is the ultimate in rigged competitions.

Your kidding right? my gran could have beaten that over rated Ukranian, possibly the worst champion ever, only ever though bums.
Well done to Fury, but Christ there has been much better achievements this year by other British boxers.

How many in November though? (and yes, I know there was another fight early Sunday morning).
My other main sport I like is athletics so my realistic votes will be going for Sir Kev and Jessica Ennis-Hill (although both other athletics world champions will get a vote from me to even though neither realistically has a chance)

| Most years, you'd pick Mo Farah to win it. To defend his world titles at both 5,000 and 10,000 metres is an unparalleled achievement in modern athletics. But then there's the Salazar factor.
Ennis-Hill and Rutherford have turned in one good performance in 12 months to win their respective titles due to maternity leave and injury.
Personally, I'd give it to Froome. To go through what he went through and come out at the other end with his second TdF win was an outstanding achievement.

I don't agree with this. Klitschko has fought the same way for a decade. Simply unwilling to take any risks, and totally unable to adapt. Yes, he's fought big opponents before, like Mariusz Wach, and he's fought quick fighters who move well, like Haye, but he's never fought a fighter with both attributes. Of course, Fury isn't the second coming of Cassius Clay, but he moves very well for a man his size. He also is adept at keeping distance, and using all of that reach. Those factors added together meant Klitschko was going to have to adapt his style, and take risks against Fury in order to win the fight, he wasn't willing to do that. He fought in a similar way to how Haye fought against him.
Fury still had to go over there in front of 55,000 German's (and Rod Stewart), with a K2 referee, and fight a guy with 20+ defences, who was in the top 3 p4p, with one of the best KO ratios in history. He managed to do what nobody else has ever done, and beat Wladimir at his own game, and become only the second British HW to win the lineal HW title.
Obviously, it comes nowhere near to the achievement of winning a 3rd place playoff in a world cup, but it's still a tremendous achievement to do what Fury did, and he deserves all the recognition he gets.
He's also one of the few people in the list with an actually personality, whether you like that personality is another matter.

| I'm sure the 'personality' part is just a way of stating person rather than man or woman. I'm not sure the award would have credibility for either awarding or not awarding depending on their actual personality.

| Here's one for you. Brian McDermott has just picked up the UK Coach of the Year at the Coaching Awards 2015.
Chance for him to replicate that with the Coach of the Year award at SPOTY?

Not bad for a McDonut who has too big an ego to hire an assistant which has held us back yet at the same time is weak enough to cave into player pressure to pick certain guys week after week.

| I'm biased, so Kev would be my number one choice, but close behind would be Adam Peaty. Triple world champion and world record holder. There is no greater competitor on the planet, he's an absolute beast, and knowing how hard he's had to train since probably the age of 8/9 to get where he is he deserves his nomination.
It's a great 12 though, I remember some of the nominees in the 80's and the quality was truly dire.
I couldn't give it to Fury though, made the mistake of watching him talk. I don't think there are scales big enough to weigh how much $h1t his 6'9" inch body is full of.
