| I heard a rumour that he was coming to an SL club a few weeks back. Can't for the life in me think which team it was - possibly could have been saints.

| Only a 3 year deal? Or is that before he moves to Bradford for 2 years?

so retiring in a chris hicks styleeee - i'd imagine Mr Moran is seeing what room they have under the cap.

| I'm not sure he will go to SL. He'll get big offers, and rightly so, but he's losing his pace and will have a huge target on him, and he's not the biggest stand off by any means. To be honest he hasn't been at his best for two years now. I hope he preserves his reputation and stays on at the Broncos in a coaching role.

retiring or retiring to SL?
bound to get some offers - just watched Darren Lockyer - Origin Highlights on youtube, really is a special player'"
The best and most complete player I've ever seen [size=85(in just over 20 years of watching league - The first aussie touring side I saw was 1990 so I notably missed Wally Lewis)[/size.
Just watched that video - for all his skill how about that tackle at around 4mins - wow! Lockyer has all the talent in the world but also has the heart of a lion. (oh also the no try at 3.30ish is a shocking call and outstanding skill by Lockyer)
I'm sure he could still stand out in SL but I think he'll retire completely - watch the "Darren Lockyer Retires" video on YouTube (a news piece with bits of his press conference and interview) - Lockyer says he's planning a year away from the game before joining the Broncos staff.

| I'll hopefullybe attending the tri-nations games just to see him play in what will be his last games over here.
Never got to see the great Johns play but Lockyer is the next in line in my opinion.

| He'll more than likely have TV contracts lined up in Aus or maybe he'll go into a coaching capacity. Aren't Brisbane looking at trying to get Bennett back for next season? Maybe Lockyer as assistant then

As class a player he was/is and with his undoubted knowledge of the game, I really really hope he doesn't go into TV work. We could have a TV panel of Lockyer, Denis Betts, Karl Harrison & Billy Slater. Just so we have a wide range of voices from the indecipherable to the downright annoying.

I think that is somewhat harsh. If a player is truly talented, he'll shine at any club. Just because someone may have left a quality, trophy winning team to join Hull, I don't think it's fair to say his career is behind him, he has nothing left to offer, and to class him as effectively "retired".
Regards,
Sean Long

| It's a close call, but in terms of the all-round package I'd say he's the best player I've seen in 35 years of watching the game, just ahead of Brad Fittler and Stacey Jones.

| Anyone who thinks Sinfield or McGuire are world class stand offs get a copy of the 2004 tri nations final - simply the greatest demonstration of the art I have ever seen.
He is like all great athletes he seems to have so much time to do things - he makes the difficult seem effortless. The only other rugby player who I think compares is Barry John.
A truly great player to rank with any that have ever played the game.
