| in peace...
I'll be heading over Leeds way in a few weeks for my stag weekend - let me be clear we're not a load of young lads in a drinking competition and I doubt if a Jägermeister or similar will pass anyone's lips while we're out - it's just an excuse to get a few of us together (about 12 of us) & escape for a few nights.
Anyway, we're staying in central Leeds close to the train station and wondered if you fine people had any suggestions for venues, ideally within easy walking distance?
On the Friday we'll be drifting over in groups so looking for pubs/bars with decent music (indie/rock - no R&B or happy house pls!), a chilled out crowd, and perhaps a comedy venue?
The Saturday is the main night out - need somewhere we can all feast for a few sheckles, and again some pubs & bars, finishing somewhere with a late licence.
All help very much appreciated - I know a few places in Leeds but the locals always know best!

For your comedy, you might want to check this place out - www.mrbens-lounge.com/
It’s pretty close to the train station and all.
On the way they, I highly recommend that you pop in to the Brewery tap. Especially if your mates are into that ‘real ale’ stuff.
A = Train Station
B = Brewery Tap
A = Mr Bens comedy club
B = Brewery Tap
For your meal on the saturday night I highly reccomend this - www.redhot-worldbuffet.com/leeds-menu.pdf
It has every meal you can imagine, as much as you want for under £15 on a night. Obviously it'll be more for your drinks. Its in the light which if you ask around you'll find alright. You may want to book yourselves in if you don't want to be queueing tho!
Hope that has helped!

| Comes up every now and again does this one. If you're looking for indie/rock music on a night out head for Call Lane and Jake's Bar, Neon Cactus and Oporto in particular. At the other end of town there's Glory Bar, Mojo's and Verve on Merrion Street and Sandinista and Sela Bar round the corner from there. If you can be bothered with the trek up there, Fab Bar at the other end of Merrion Street is always worth a visit too.
Just a few for starters

| Don't go in Fab Cafe unless you like a foisty smell and wrangled students. For Friday if you want a late bar with indie/rock I'd suggest the Shed Bar. Next door is the Cockpit that has a half decent indie night on on Fridays plus they are more likely to let a large group of lads in. Another decent bar close by would be the Brewery Taps

| Yeah FAB f-cking kicks out a right pong man. It's horrible in there. Feel like a need a sterile bath when I come out of there. Haven't been in for months haven't had a wash in months either. You might like Stone Roses. But I'd try all the places that have already been mentioned.

| Thanks for the recommendations (and warnings!) folks!
Damo - that comedy place looks good, might give that a whirl. Plenty of bars to choose from everyone else's posts it seems.
We've got a Fab Cafe in Manchester - it's not too bad, a bit grotty at times but has THE best retro Star Wars game...
One final question - this is gonna be Millenium Magic weekend (we wanted to go but left it too late and the usual Cardiff accommodation situation has scuppered that plan!). Any recommendations on somewhere to watch a couple of games on Sat evening and Sunday?
Thanks again...

Head towards millenium square within 5 mins of there you have the choice of.
Varsity - sports pub that does not allow ANY team colours.
Walkabout - Nuff said.
O'Neills - Mostly kick and clap and Nancyball. but will put RL on in the smaller room if you ask nicely.
Sports cafe. Known locally as the chav cafe. plenty of screens, though can be pricey.
Town Hall Tavern - saturday only (its shut Sundays) Will always have RL on. bit tiny and can be cliquey, but superb range of bitters and ciders. Just dont upset the bloke who looks like Heather from Eastenders.
The George - Dead. Alledgedly run by the triads. Has 2 screens though and a decent pint.

| Shame to hear the Fab Cafe has gotten so shoddy. It was OK years ago. I remember being in there the night before we won the title in 2004 and I had a fantastic time.

| Which hotel are you staying at?
Can I add to some of the excellent recommendations and point you in the direction of a new but very nice place owned by Ossett Brewery called The Hop ([urlhttp://www.thehopleeds.co.uk/[/url) on Granary Wharf (Dark Arches). It would be a great Friday night haunt and maybe stop you over-doing the first night with it just being on the edge of the City Centre but under the station.

| Aye we went when it first opened and it was sweet as a nut. Suppose that's what happens when you don't put any money into a business. Stinks too.
