Hey guys I'm up for a stag do this weekend, wondering if there are any good places you could recommend.
We're all in our 30's, prefer indie/rock but don't mind dance.

Any places that should be avoided ?

On a serious note, start off at the Shed. Cracking place with good beer and music. The go to The Hop in the Dark Arches near Granary Wharf - tend to have pretty decent cover bands and real ale.

Try Sandinista for a indie/rock bar - open while 3:00am with an all night lap dancing bar just round the corner.

I've never taken a photograph so fast, it needed to be a head-on one and there was more than just the one of them stood outside growling at pedestrians - it happens a lot though, I went through a phase of using pubs as subjects for paintings (there are some fantastic old pubs in Leeds) but every time you get a camera out to take a photo some ape comes out of the door and stares at you

Ahh The George (The Nigel as we call it, long story) many a time sat in there with no-one else in there apart from the barman, or so we thought until all the triads came up from downstairs

The George was a great favourite of me and my colleagues when I worked at the Combined Court Centre next door. Had many a great time in there. Too many years ago now. This was waaay before the Triads took over.

Generally avoid Boar Lane and the side of the Merrion Centre if you're after Indie/Rock stuff

Star was never good either but it was very cheap as it was SU prices so it turned into a good night

I'm going on my brother's stag around Leeds at the end of the month and would like advice on which bars are 'stag-friendly'.

We're dressing up in Morphsuits for the occasion (for those not familiar, imagine brightly-coloured spandex bodysuits) and will be commencing our drinking at Midday. We're thinking of starting off in Headingley before making our way into town and getting a minibus back to Barnsley in the early hours.

I'm assuming that most places in Headingley will be ok with a group of 10-12 of us in fancy dress, given that this is prime student territory. Does anyone know which bars in town are fairly lax on groups? Obviously we're not planning to go anywhere high-brow but a lot of bars are funny about normal-dressed groups of men, nevermind us! If there's one consolation, it's Halloween that weekend so there will probably be a lot of other kn0bs out in fancy dress.

Any help appreciated, it will save me ringing around everywhere in advance to check their policy.

You’ll definitely get in the cockpit or fab café dressed in your fancy dress gear.

Revolution let us in on my mates 20something when we dressed as Golfers.

Not the same thing though is it?

Although if you want a real evening I recommend Leeds West Indian Centre.

Went past the Three legs on the bus at about 10.45 and there was a bloke in there supping his ale dressed as Sherlock Holmes sat in the window

I got barred from The George once for fighting

Wasn't my fault guv, it was a mass brawl that ended up in the street outside and then the landlady wouldn't let us back in when it was finished



But you're right, the legal fraternity and student nurses from over the road used to pack that place out every day - I went in last year and there were more bar staff then customers.

Did they slam the shutter down thinking,

'what's that podgy, weird looking, fella taking pictures of us for'
