| I know its a very very long way..............but has anyone ever driven to Perpignan?
How long did it take you ? I would be grateful for any information regarding cost of tolls, how much petrol you used etc etc.
Thanks Fatbelly

Yes, but quite a few years ago.
You can do it with one stopover but that makes for a heck of alot of driving each day.
Better bet is to do 2 stops, one in Northern France (ideally just past Paris) and one between Limoges and Toulouse.

| Never driven to Perpignan but have driven to Val D'isere and Les Deux Alps in the mountains and they havent been too bad. Depends on how many drivers you have. We did two designated drivers per car and went overnight so the roads are clear and you can go that little bit faster. We set off to Val at about 5pm and was there at 2pm the next day. No one was really knackered as we did it in shifts and made sure we tried to sleep in between. The first day will be knackering but you soon perk up
Having checked google maps there isnt much in it from what we did and going to perps so its do-able without a stop as long as you have more than one driver

| i did it a couple of years back at Easter - like Puig says, takes a couple of days - and is a lot easier if you have more than 1 driver.
We set off on Saturday am, got the afternoon ferry and drove on past Paris. Sunday drove from about 9am pretty constantly and arrived in Perpignan about 6pm in the evening.
Was just over 1,000 miles, so think we spent about £150 in filling up a 3/4 times each way - cant remember the price of the road tolls (dont forget you have to drive back too when working out your budget!)
There was 3 of us, so worked out cheaper/more fun to do it that way rather than flying, although we did spend about 5 days touring round that area too.

Beating terrible, rubbish public transport in the process, no doubt, despite it being 10 times faster than his car.
That'll teach everyone how much better cars are than everything else ever.

Les Deux Alps - loved it there, great skiing including La Grave where I was convinced I was about to die.

Never done La Grave as was too young when we drove there. Les Deux Alps is really good skiing but it cant trump Val especially with Tignes next door

| I've met someone who drives from Leeds to Morocco every other month in a 'normal car'.
Four days in a row no sleep

For what possibly reason?
On second thoughts don't answer that.

| Yes and never again, the kids were younger then and I swore I'd never do it again - the only bonus is you don't have to hire a car when you get there - apart from that it'll cost you a fortune in fuel and would probably be cheaper flying to Barcelona and hiring a car from there.

Just remember to factor in the losing of your insurance excess on the hire car when the idiot that you nominate to drive forgets that driving on the right means that you have to watch for parked cars on your right hand side rather than your left.
RIP wing mirror.

| Driven down there in 2 days.
Leeds to paris then Paris to carcassone, well its only just over an hour to perpignan.
Use the RNs and motorways when free and still able to do the trip in 2 days.
have even taken an HGV there, allow four days though!

| Overnight needed - making for 2 full days drive.
Avoid Paris - traffic is a nightmare, so my suggested route, although on map it looks like you're going out of the way, the roads are easy to follow and you'll miss the M25 of Paris!!!!
From Calais aim for Reims then Troyes -Overnight here.
Then Dijion, Lyon, Orange, Nimes then down the coast past Montpellier, Naronne then almost there !!!!
Tolls approx £180 round trip..rip off....
Fuel - diesel 45litre tank - 1 fill up enroute down and 1 enroute back.Plus last full up in Calais as cheaper than in Kent !!

Have you ever taken the P&O/Brittany ferries routes to Bilbao/Santander and driven down from the north instead ?

| No Mc_f I'm not very sea faring.
Plus I see more opportunities to make a few quid in France.
Profits can be made in Spain too, but I leave it to those who are more frequent visitors to Spain to deal with the gringos.
BTW he is over for the Wolves match!
