Think powell has been a breath of fresh air this year with his cas side.my opinion on him havn't changed post cup final, I just think whoever faced us on saturday wouldn't have faired any better than cas did, infact I think its a credit they got as close as they did.im sure he will learn as much as his team from saturdays experience.

Would I still have him back at leeds in the future? Most definitely.

The test for Powell now is can he come up with something to work when the next team try and replicate our victory plan.

I don't think Brian deserves any criticism for last night's defeat.

Leeds were superb for an hour before the extra man took it's toll.

So you don't think the utilisation of 2 extra forwards might have alleviated that "toll"...and thus been the factor you think was instrumental in the loss?

Not one to use Opta personally but those that do can't have helped but notice how much more even the ten St Helens forwards shared their defensive duties when compared to the Leeds eight - not rocket science I know but it does highlight one effect of not fully utilising the bench.

So if you didn't use OPTA on what information did you base your statement?

Not withstanding the wink, I record the Opta stats made freely available online after each regular round game - as I know you've seen the evidence of in the past.

I've stopped short of reproducing the figures but I know some put some faith in them.

Meh. Leeds were always going to have a comedown from the CC, it's just most people expected it last week and not this. That statistic, leeds have been without 2 of their best attacking players for all those minutes and a man down for a large chunk. I've been a critic of leeds attack but in this instant it fairly meaningless.

Don't know if you were one of them, but it wasn't so long ago that many were saying McGuire's best days were long gone !!! How times do change

His best days are gone. Watch some clips on youtube, he does things which are unheard of for him now. In fact watching leeds from even 5 or 6 years ago is pretty depressing we scored tries then which we simply never do anymore.

Quite true , we were spoilt for a long time and the entertainment value has somewhat gone now , very little offloading , backing up and a definate lack of pace in the pack and at half back Burrow apart . Everyone said we have the best threequarters in the league but we have failed to get them moving much this year and we seem very short of planned moves . Still like i said at the start we have been spoilt and when you look at the squad now it is no where near it was when we could leave Adamson and Dunneman out of our 17

In fairness, the importance of any side's halves cannot be overestimated. I bet there aren't many fans that haven't imagined at one time or another how much better their teams would perform if one or both of their halves was replaced.

I agree.I too have questioned Mcguire earlier in the year but hold my hands up and admit i was wrong. he has really stepped up in the big cup games this year and when he hasn't played recently we have missed him.He is obviously not the player he was,but there is such a dearth of quality half backs in SL and when you look around it is hard to find many better TBH,especially on the big stage.

He's got to go, surely that has to be recognised now by all?

Not for me, need to give him chance to re build and get rid of the dead wood, e.g Sinfield, Maguire, Kirke, Bailey & JJB and get him a decent number 2 who can help with the attacking play as he has not got a clue when it comes to coaching attacking football.

I agree McDermott has run his course we need somebody with new ideas however.
