| Jack Broadbent looked outstanding on the highlights, runs some great lines and has good footwork.

Broadbents outstanding, some, including myself, rate him a better prospect than Newman.

I rate them both highly but imo Newman is better at this stage.

Whilst I am more in the Broadbent camp, Newman is the guy who deserves the first shot and should be getting that before we are in the position of one or the other.

| Newman is year older than Jack. Both excellent prospects. Big and athletic centres with good pace. Newman is probably the better athlete and Broadbent the better rugby brain but both have a good chance to make the grade if they stay healthy and level headed.
The young kid in 16s Joe Burton looks good too.

| As someone who doesn't get to see any academy games, are there any forwards physically ready to play in the 1st team?
With the current injury situation we are desperate for new blood in the front row but wouldn't want to see someone thrown in who is not ready.

Owen Trout & Alex Sutcliffe plus i wouldnt be against giving Mconnel Darly Moorhouse or Darly 10 minute stints.
Holroyd is the best prop in the 19's but he's barely turned 17 so id leave him for at least another year.

| Im not as big a fan of Trout as others are i think he looks a bit slow but he has some talent a decent offload and has a good step.
Holroyd is still a kid but if he was thrown into the 1st team on the bench he would cope for 10 mins or so easily. He runs so powerfully he really takes some stopping. I know Super League is a massive step up on 19s rugby and for a kid so young it would be a huge ask but ive no doubt in him at all.
As ive said previous the hooker Corey Johnson probably isnt quite ready to step up yet but hes better than Brad Dwyer now and id rather see him on bench than Dwyer. I hope they dont ruin Johnson by making him bulk up.

| I read on twitter earlier today that 6 Rhinos have been chosen for England Academy.
Trout, Holroyd, Johnson, Broadbent, Newman & McConnell.
The post has since been deleted.

I would agree with all that, except that Dwyer can offer us a bit of flexibility in the forwards rather than just hooker, as he is physical enough. Although, that said, Johnson is also an outstanding half aswell as hooker, if you looked at it from that point of view.
Alex Sutcliffe is the most ready replacement for the first team, and I would have him at centre before Keinhorst, and in the back row long before the likes of Walters. His major problem is the lad can't seem to get a break from the injuries he keeps getting.

Well thats exactly it with Alex Sutcliffe and while i personally dont think he will make the grade at Leeds at the moment he probably is the most ready out of the forwards at the moment. The others are still s bit young.
Brad Martin is another talented player but again still a bit young and injuries have impacted his season.
In regards to Corey i hope they forget the halves idea and let him concentrate solely on the hooking role. Hope he continues to develop as he is.

| Good win for the 19's yesterday, showed some good reslience in a hard place to play and playing with a squad of 15 for most of the game due to early injuries. Does anyone know how suttcliffe and chapman-smith are doing?
Also congratulations to the 6 lads called up to the England academy squad...Trout, McConnell, Newman, Holroyd, Broadbent and Johnson, some brilliant talent there and well deserved recognition. Pretty much what i expected but think Tyler Dupree is unlucky to miss out, he's been a real handful of an impact prop all year for the 19's...Talent wise Brad Martins easily good enough for a call up, but hasnt played that many games so can understand him missing out.

Sadly, both Sutcliffe and chpamn-smith were in leg braces And looked pretty bad. Fingers crossed for both who have had terrible bad luck with injuries.
The U19's really stood up, Holroyd is developing rapidly and pressing for first team. He is not built as athletically as oledZki but is a natural RL player. He puts loads in, got sent off late on for throwing a punch after a high shot.
He then warmed up as 18th man with the first team. Had one of them gone down in the warm up, he would then have had to play again, I'm no sports scientist but that seemed a weird prospect.
Thought All the pack did well, the 2 who stood a bit higher for me were McConell who played the full 80 I think and kept going and going. Not the biggest but can play and very good temperament (as you know Seth).
The other one was Darley, more athletic, looks a tough kid and reminds me a bit of singleton. Again kept going.
Although we are suffering at prop in first team now, I would be signing back row men and be looking to bring through a crop of these. In the end the u19's did to Catalan what the Catalan first team pack did to Leeds.
Burrow looked a happy man.
Agree with Rhino Mark, get a new technical coach in, bring these through and improve the brand of football.
In addition to results, there is an extra pressure coming for McD. By next year there will be a top class new ground and a ton of corporate stuff to shift and a desire to fill the ground. That happens a lot easier with a Cas / Saints footballing product. If we are playing dead rubbers in August and September and crowds shrink that could be the tipping point.

Good summary. Darleys an interesting one. In his 3rd year now and been under the radar compared to his peers. By all accounts he's a natural leader through his actions, loves training, bit of a machine when its gym time, turning himself into a good forward and starting to get some recognition. Be interesting to see what happens with him for nxt season.

| Agree with you both above. Particularly at prop there are advantages to developing more slowly and a bit later. I'd offer Darley a contract, he looks like he could keep improving. Both him and McConnell carried themselves like pro's. Johnson also is playing old man football (in a good way).
The kid Catalan had at 7, don't know his name could be a world beater.

Heard today that catalan are doing away with there 19's and a lot of them are heading to Toulouse, not sure if its true or not, anybody heard anything? Id certainly take there 7 here, he looked very good.
Id offer darley a contract aswel and let him have a season on loan at hunslet and see how he develops.

Loui could well have been a GB BMXer right now with the offer he had in that sport, I’m glad he did choose to stay with us as he was a terrific lad to coach, as you say, a very even temperament and also a very deceptive engine. If given the opportunity to play a little wider he’s some lovely soft skills, would have liked to see him forge a lasting link up with his junior half back team mate as they were telepathic. As an aside, I’m glad Burrow is looking after this side and not Morley.
