As a Carnage stand regular I'm not happy either.
Chronically oversold and busy this is just going to make the situation even worse.
The club better have a decent beverage and food plan as the one currently in place for the Carnegie is woefully inadequate as it is.

| The whinging on social media about this today has been embarrassing, needs must so why can't people respond understandably without dummy spitting, even got some idiots saying we should just leave the SouthStand as it is even though it's been condemned for nearly a decade now.

You always get friction when things like this happen, it's for the greater good though.
Biggest worry has to be as others have pointed out, a few thousand fans are lost to the club by not being able to secure tickets for the next couple of seasons, the team also nose dives away from contention at the same time and these fans don't return upon completion of the stands.

| Quote ="tenerifeRhino"Club has confirmed we will be playing in a reduced capacity Headingley while SS is being redeveloped. I really think this is a bit of a mistake. What will be capacity? 12-13k? we had 18k for the Cas match last week! Do we really want 4-6k fans getting out of the habit of going to games for 2 years assuming the north stand will be done the year after.'"
I think I'm right in saying both stands will be done at the same time, with the southstand to be partially open in 2018.
Have any of our Super 8's games had 18k attendances over the last two years? The super 8 games generally have lower attendances than the regular rounds. It will be 1-2k fans missing out in those games.

You are probably correct in assuming a few thousand fans may drift away. I would think this number would be replaced with fans wanting to experience the novelty of the new south-stand facilities. One would assume they should be decent, bearing in mind the amount of money that's being spent.

| It's a good move for the club, which will modernise the ground hugely. There will be some disruption, but realistically you can't do a project like that without disruption

| The Emerald Headingley Stadium, erm not too bad I suppose when you consider some of the names given to grounds after sponsorship such as Saints' Totally Wicked Stadium.

| Never heard of emerald group before today, recruitment business based in Basingstoke?
Would love to know how some organisations justify sponsorship deals. Sounds a bit random to sponsor headingley but then again I still don't know where to go if I need to get a hose mended.
Never quite got why Carnegie would pay out all that in sponsorships of challenge cup and headingley in the past.
But then I am a tight Yorkshireman

Can understand doing it with new grounds, for example Arsenal's new stadium has always been The Emirates and nothing else. Newcastle try and call their ground Sports Direct Arena and people did and always will call it St James' Park. Wakefield have had a few different names for Belle Vue recently but everyone still calls it Belle Vue, if they eventually do get a new ground that would be the right time to get naming rights.

| Suspect they're doing it more for the cricket ground than for us, and we've piggy backed as part of a joint redev deal. It's a fair chunk of the cost though, so no bad thing IMO.

To be more specific the fact that it's an international cricket ground. Both the Rhinos and Yorkshire cricket have benefited financially from England playing cricket matches at headingley.

There's already plenty of Loiners on the WT. Never had any bother before so presumably any future occurrences can be squarely laid at the feet of the Southstanders. Don't want it to be like Belle Vue with home fans crying because the nasty away fans are stood amongst them!

The Emerald deal was described as "in addition to a range of commercial, community and charitable benefits." The sponsorship deal with Leeds Building Society ends this year - it's possible that they may be our new shirt sponsor as well.

Rhinos have confirmed they will play their home games at Headingley during 2018 and 2019 as work goes on.
Rhinos hope to have the new South Stand partially open next year and it is understood a temporary stand is planned on the north side of the ground.
This confirms what my reliable source told me
Quote ="The Biffs Back"I heard today that the club will have the lower tiers of both the south and north stands open for the start of the 2018 season and that both will be standing room only.Construction will continue as normal whilst the top tiers of both stands are completed before the seating in the lower tier of the north stand is installed.
If true then this should enable the club to full fill it's home games without moving away from Headingley, although i'm not sure if the club will be able to temporarily allocate seats in the Carnegie stand for current north stand season ticket holders?'"
