Monday. Match review panel assess the games and determine sanctions.

Clubs and players have the option to appeal.

Tuesday. Appeal happens with an independent panel who can consider evidence the MRP may not have had available to them.
Tuesday evening. Sanction is reduced from one game to no games.

If you for some moronic reason think a one game reduction in a player's suspension is "proof" of some major malaise then you've got years of serious disappointment ahead of you as the world turns out to be slightly more complicated than perhaps you can get your head around.

You're right that it doesn't indicate the sport is dying, but they're just too soft. Bateman's defense is that he didn't say it to the ref, he said it about LMS as he was bullying one of his young players. It's pathetic that they have rescinded the ban, purely because it belittles Chris Kendall. Kendall was there and saw it happening and was looking at Bateman when it happened. He'll have known who he was saying it to.

They made some bizarre calls this week and this just doubles down on that. They ruled that Willie Isa's hit on Welsby was 'reckless but not intentional'. He wasn't sent off by the video referee as Thaler thought he didn't intentionally hit Welsby. Explain that one. They must be suggesting he tripped over a divot and landed on his face.

If that is what Thaler thought on looking Isa;s attack on Welsby , then you are right - the game is in serious trouble . How anybody in their right mind can say hitting a player lying defenceless on the ground , is not intentional is beyond me .
I would like to do the same to Thaler - then lets see what he thinks.

Not much incentive to be a referee when the powers that be basically say we believe the pkayer over the official. His defence was probably a character reference from Zak Hardaker and the Tompkins boys. We can complain about the quality of ref's but they should not be disrespected in this manner. Its not the end of the world mind as some are predicting

At which stage is the referees version of events taken into account, as this seems crucial in this case? The match review panel can assess high tackles etc from watching the video but this comes down to something that was said, much harder to determine from just watching the game. Presumably the refs microphone provides some info, but Kendall's opinion must surely be given at some point. It would seem strange if these are not looked at at stage 1 before any ban is issued. If that is the case and it is decided that the abuse was directed to the referee and a ban issued it seems an odd one to overturn.

Totally different from the Myler incident before anyone goes on about it - in that case Myler accused the ref of cheating which is a worse offence than swearing.

Transparency would help the RFL,after all that's what they are striving towards.Cannot see the appeal judgement on the disciplinary cases website.The disciplinary have a history of ludicrous judgements.Ben Flowers (punching) ban during the off season,or Bobby Gouldings time limited ban as opposed to a game length ban so he could play in the test series.Coaches, players,CEOs and fans are not happy with the process.Something needs to be fixed.
