We know the finances make sense. We know we make a lot of money when we sell 30k+ tickets to Elland Road because we have done it.

People dont really watch the challenge cup outside the final. We got 8k against Hudds in the cup, a game we got 13k for on a thursday in february in the league.

OK when was the last time Leeds sold out Headingley? Why do you think moving to ER will suddenly add c10k to the crowd?

I dont think moving to elland road will suddenly add 10k. I think we can get crowds of 30-40k if we put the effort in, we can only do that at Elland Road.

What is this magical marketing idea you've got in mind that will double our crowds for a league game (on short notice btw because of not knowing the Super 8 fixtures until after R23)

We don't know the finances make sense because we've never tried taking several league games there and we simply WON'T sell 30k tickets, we probably won't sell 20k, regardless of what your imaginary marketing genius wants to think.

Firstly, Yes i agree the Super 8s nonsense is a terrible idea that limits the ability of clubs to market to fans. It should be scrapped. Im glad you now agree.

I find it strange that having argued so vociferously in favour of this new structure, how brilliant and exciting it would be, how every game would matter and fans would be flocking to the game you are now telling us that 20k or 30k attendances for Leeds rhinos is like asking for the moon on a stick.

In fact, the only game that could possibly get those attendances is the WCC, something you said was pointless and should be scrapped and just an excuse for the NRL fanboys to tell us how crap super league is.

Well i mean your question shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what marketing is, but to humour you some ideas on some of the groups we can target:

15k Leeds United season ticket holders.
80k that attend games regularly.
The roughly 20k new students at Leeds universities who will move to leeds during August and September
The roughly 60k students at Leeds' colleges
The roughly 200k School age children in Leeds.
The 250k people who work in the cities Financial and Professional services industry

Again what are your plans to get them to come? Just pointing out the population of Leeds in a prolonged way doesn't tell us how you're going to convince them to come. That same population doesn't even fill Headingley otherwise we'd have average attendances of 19-20k, not 15k.

We don't have the capacity to. We cannot benefit from the economies of scale to.

Your whole argument here is that we can't go out and reach new people because they don't already attend.

We have the capacity to attract 20k.....but we don't. Again do you not think we try to attract these people already? New students? Why would they go to Ellsnd Road and not Headingley (which is in the heart of the student area).

Your argument based on, it's a bigger ground so people will come, they don't come to Headingley because we only have 20/25% capacity left free.

20k is a different operation to 37k We do not have the capacity to. they do, but at a much lower level because we do not have the capacity to.

Right so Leeds Rhinos don't try to attract more people to Headingley because at 65-75% full most weeks we don't have the capacity to get more in. What absolute nonsense.

We DO have the capacity to get more at Headingley. 14-15k in a stadium that can hold 20k IS NOT FULL.....simple as, no wriggling around from you can alter what is an unquestionable fact.

It may be a fact but it is also completely irrelevant. it is a different operation with, as mentioned, different economies of scale (and as such a different relationship with the price elasticity of demand) trying to attract an extra 22k compared to an extra 6k. Try as you desperately might, you cannot fit a 37k operation in to a 20k stadium.

if leeds do manage to string together a couple of full houses with tickets either unavailable or very hard to get then that generates a feeling for those that dont go that they are missing out on something
mini season tickets covering 5 or 10 games might help for the fans that cant get there every week

How would you target them? Saying you'd target anybody who doesn't currently attend games ISN'T a detailed marketing plan or operation. What operation are you going to run that attracts both city financial workers and students?

Because you're saying it'd be easy to sell 30k tickets at Elland Road, if it's that easy then you can explain how? Saying let's just get people who don't come to come, God I'm sure Leeds have never thought of that.

It isn't as simple as you make out, that you can't explain how you'd attract them proves this. You'd just waste a load of the clubs money for nothing but a fantasy that exists in your head.

Firstly, i havent said it would be easy, but that isnt a reason not to do it
Secondly, You arent pointing out some unforseen problems here, just like every sad-sack cynic you simply confuse defeatism for realism.
Thirdly i can explain how i would attract them, i would use a variety of methods to reach out to those groups mentioned. Such as, as has been suggested earlier, offering a 'mini-season' ticket to Leeds Utd season ticket holders. I would also contact the Student Unions at Leeds and Leeds Beckett and offer them the opportunity to sell tickets for us and make themselves some money. I would also offer heavily discounted tickets, hell even a free one, to every new student. I would offer family packages through the schools, i would also offer discounted tickets to local RL clubs. I would take a leaf from What Wigan did with Heinz and contact say First Direct and offer them the Revie Stand for their employees and families and sell them in bulk.

remember, if we get an attendance 3 times bigger, we only need to make a 3rd as much per attendee.
