So honest question, Tad. Who? The days are long gone when you could source a first rate coach from the NRL. Most assist coaches turn their nose up. It's easy getting rid (as we have proved) but it's very difficult to appoint someone who is not viewed as a gamble.

| Completely get that it's hard to recruit the right quality coach (it's hard to get the players too) but other teams have managed to get those decisions right.
Yes the player are not good enough but if its not the coaches job to get the best out of what's available then I don't know what his job is. RS has failed to do that more times this season than he has. If he was the right coach then we'd see much better regardless of many more wins, regardless of injuries. But the Performances are amateur at best.

He's obvious but not available. I love watching his Salford team, but many posters on here hanker for a return to steady as you go pressure football. Rowley is a world away from that, in fact he and Smith seem to share many of the same coaching beliefs. He is however, the one I'd be keeping an eye on.

As was levelled at Powell last season. I'm not arguing that this is the sole reason, or even the major reason (though it may be, who knows?), but if a significant number have been told they aren't part of the plan, and those same players are now thrust into the team due to injuries (Walters and Tindall are two that we know of) then that would account, at least in part, for the "can't be bothered" attitude that is so clearly demonstrated most weeks. As happened at Wire.

| Quote ="FlexWheeler"This kind of logic totally does my head in.
A) smith signed some of those players that aren’t good enough
B) if professionals keep making the same basic errors, it’s likely the coaching input is causing this. Otherwise, when teams do well is that just players doing good things and the coach isn’t responsible. By your logic, what’s the point in a coach at all, if they are just passive beings who don’t influence stuff.'"
A) he has a budget mate, and it wasn’t big at all bc we are contracted up the the plums with overpaid / past it dead wood. What would you have had him do?
B) come on. These players are mid twenties to early thirties you think a coach is responsible now for basic handling skills?
Of course the coach had a big impact but this squad simply isn’t good enough, and is ravaged by injury again.
Some if you lot just look at results and react. I’m not saying RS as a coach is the Messiah but we need to make far better decisions with recruitment and retention than we have seen for much longer than his tenure.

| Think some on here are turning it into a football forum. Coaching merry go round doesn’t work. Just look at the other team they worship!
Rohan gets 3 years. Let’s see what he’s implemented by then….

| arthur, I have no idea who is rated or available in Australia. over here there's little quality and even less available.
but it's not my job to know.
I do know, and it's my opinion and I've said it for a while, smith simply isn't good enough. and his left field ideas don't work. I know you disagree and I've no issues with that. it's a forum. we all have different views.
long may that continue

I totally accept that. For me, what Smith achieved last season counted for a lot, but with each loss (especially these last two) the scales start to tilt the other way. Thing is - if the board did push the button tomorrow I genuinely wouldn't know where any coaching search was headed. The likes of Flanagan etc always get thrown out there but it's abundantly clear they aren't interested. The brutality of the Furner sacking (I'm not suggesting he was the answer) has done us no favours in Oz. I just have very little stomach for another "exhaustive search" for the right man. I'm not sure there is a right man for the current playing squad. That is the truly shameful thing. I just that hope that whatever happens regarding coaching the decision is taken with a clear head and without emotion.

| Agree with the last few posts.
Furner was probably a decent choice but to pick up a football link.
He was too Brian Clough wanting to get rid of the players too quickly and it didn`t go down well with certain yesterdays heroes at the club.
The players or some of them today were the ones who turned over Wigan, Catalans and Saints.
So something has gone wrong recently and it could be some players have been told they won`t be here next year.
I`ve always thought contracts should run until the end of a season and negotiations only take place when the season is over.
No idea who is available but completely left field other than Ryan Carr . How about Lee Briers?

When we hired Murray he had just coached Hunter Mariners to the final of the World Club Championship. He was a hot property. Even back in 98 getting Murray was something of a coup, nowadays it would be a miracle. I just wish it was as simple as opening up the chequebook, but those days are long gone.

Tim Sheens maybe available soon

Couldn’t agree more Tad. I’m absolutely raging about that today. Embarrassing to say the least. Honestly I’m just lost for words and I’ve no idea how we turn this around. Smith did a great job last year but this year after his first full offseason it’s gone horribly wrong… that today snd against Cas is as bad as it was under Agar.. something needs to be done.
No point sacking Smith yet imo, we’re not going down and we’re not getting in the playoffs… time start planning for next season and how we get out of this sh*t show and get our great club back to where it belongs

| Agree with these points. How does Tad know that Smith isn't taking responsibility for the bad stuff? Wouldn't it be more responsible for him to roll up his sleeves and try to put it right?
After all, he could walk now and complain that he never had the ability to sign the players he really wanted because of the salary cap. I would be massively disappointed in him if he did this.
