This squad of players, on the decline as they may be is at worst, the 5th best squad. I actually think our squad is better than Huddersfield's on paper and perhaps level with Saints' as well. 4th for me would have been acceptable with the squad as it is, but we are 8th, we are playing dross and the aging squad is getting older and older. The buck absolutely stops with the coach, if we had a better coach we would not be this low in the table.

We let a guy who had a proven track record of academy success be poached/coaxed away from us and replaced him with a hithero untested bloke in poching. Nice bloke that he is, surley we could have done better? Jobs for the boys/yes men and all that jazz.

Bastian was a huge loss IMO, well done to TS for poaching him (no pun intended!) but as Rogues (a man who knows a bit or two about the youth development of clubs) says, we have seem to lose interest in our youth development slightly since the success at first team level started coming.

Not sure about that - I certainly wouldn't swap squads, regardless of who was coaching them.

The squad of players we currently have should be capable of much better performances. I don't expect Leeds to win every game, but I do expect to see a performance.

I made excuses for Mac whilst he was at Quins - he didn't have the players, etc.. He's had the excuse at Leeds of introducing new structures (not sure I understand what the attacking or defence structures are yet though) and needing time to bed those in. Surely we should be seeing some week on week improvement by now. Whilst I'd love to see him succeed, I don't see it happening.

Coaches do make a difference, when Smith went to Wire King was being booed by his own fans - Briers was said to be past it and set for Barrow. Smith seems to have revitalised both those players. Leeds deserve much better from their coaching team. I fear for the development of our younger squad members.

Hard to argue with you on this season's showings but a lot of this squad are the same players that have won grand finals. I know that they're on the down slope a lot of them, but not as bad as 8th, not a chance! I think that you have regressed slightly over the last 2 years, but at least you are hanging in there with the big boys. This is something that we should still be doing (as we did last season), but we're not.

With this squad and a different coach I would not expect to be at the top, but we should be hanging on in there with saints

You are right, we would be nowhere near top. I think you picked the wrong team for hanging on in there with. Saints squad is far better than ours. Huddersfield on the other hand we should be hanging on in there with, that's the bigger worry for how far we have gone backwards.

Guarantee that if the same things are happening in April/May time next year as were happening this year, there will be people on here jumping up and down and demanding the heads of the coaching staff, Hetherington and all the players. Some people just never learn.

Our sport is a results based business and last night was a result to beat them all. We all learn a bit of humility and put our hands up to say we have been wrong. After all our success with this current squad it becomes the norm to expect quality performances and if anyone says that in the first half of the season when I posted this thread that the team were playing anything like what they were capable of then they are deluded.
Congratulations to our head coach and squad once again for a magnificent achievement and mostly to our CEO who has shown why he does the job he does and why most of us supporters dont.

Let's hope for a bit more patience and a lot more rugby judgement next time please.
