| Quote ="Once were Loiners"Not easy but not impossible. I'm not saying we should get rid of Austin - just that if wanted a new halfback we could get one.
Briscoe will retire anyway and we've got junior prospects who ought to be old enough to get a chance as backup (Edwards will be 19 at the start of next season). Dwyer's place in the squad would go to Johnson, and I'd keep O'Connor as backup and get him to train as a hooker. Donaldson, Thompson, Mustapha and Mellor would be replaced by two props in the squad. We already have Gannon, Martin, Bentley, Walters and Smith as genuine back row forwards.
The retention of bad players is the dumbest ongoing problem we have with our squad.'"
I agree, I would rather get rid of players who aren’t good enough than simply retain people. If it is going to be bumpy I would rather play young players then just retain not good enough players.
Thompson, Mustapha, Dwyer, briscoe, Mellor are simply not good enough. I think you can add Broadbent to that group as he won’t stay.

I have said earlier in this thread I think this should be the last year for Prior. I would also ask Zane if he wants to return to Australia. As you say Sezer and Fusitua will probably be given the option to leave as well. Austin, Martin and Thompson OOC and that is all off our overseas players

I can't see contracted players, especially those on good money, just toddling off home because they are asked. Even if they did do we think we'd get seven decent players from the NRL in one go? Not a chance. Best we can do is be ruthless with the out of contract players, recruit with a view to quality over quantity and trust a new coach to get the best out of the likes of Sezer, Tetavano, Fusitua etc.

This is it. We have to get the best out of what we have rather than seeking vast changes because that's going to set us back years. The starting point should be that the squad is underperforming rather than simply unable to hit the heights required. Obviously it's going to be a mix but getting a coach in now, for this season would make it so much easier for them to make their own minds up about retention.

| Prior was going to head back to Aus and we convinced him to stay with a 2 year deal. Don’t see it as a huge stretch for him to think I don’t fancy another year of this when we are not challenging or anywhere near, I was thinking about retirement anyway.
Fusitua hasn’t really settled and has picked up some injuries etc so he may decide the UK wasn’t the fresh start he wanted. As you say if we have a new coach and he can stay fit (huge if) then no issue with him being around.
Sezer may look a different player with a new coach. I don’t imagine he will want to leave but something to think about.
Don’t expect us to sign 7 NRL players, in fact I would rather we had very few NRL players.

| People should get teal and get off players backs wine they don’t know or appreciate the facts! Sezer has had a groin strain since round 1 and played on. If anyone has had a groin strain they will know it’s extremely debilitating. So before you write him off wait until he his fit first. When he is fit you will see the real Sezer I’m sure.

| There have to be serious questions around Fusitu'a's future. Does he have a physical injury at the moment?

| On Fusitua, how much of a gamble he is worth might change next year. I think Iremember it was stated in the press release that the Warriors were subsidising his wages. I don’t know how often such an arrangement normally lasts. If his wage suddenly jumps, then he quickly becomes a very expensive luxury based on current returns.

| Agreed on Fusitua, listening to one of JJB's earlier pressers, get the impression his heads not in it, which was a concern when we signed him, something similar happened with him at the warriors.

Sezer copped plenty of criticism because he was playing poorly. It wasn't until JJB announced that he had been playing injured and rested him for the Saints game, that anyone was aware of his injury.

| Fusitua has also had surgery on his knee.
We shouldn't be too quick to right off players who struggle when they first come over, he had a very unsettled year in the NRL before he came and then got knocked out in his first game, plus then had surgery.
Look at Field for Wigan, things can turn around and he has a lot to offer if he can get fit.

Im still absolutely astounded that we didn't even get a penalty for that, especially when they were being very harsh on players. He hit him directly in the head with his shoulder, intentional or not it was very very careless.

Very good point. I think the ultimate example of this was Scott Donald. We used to shout from the stands "don't pass to Donald" as a joke! Second season onwards, he was unbelievable.

| Fusitua is also very much a confidence player. It can’t help your confidence being smacked in the jaw with someone’s shoulder and knocked out on debut, and then picking up a knee injury that needs surgery.
He’s a brilliant player when his body is fit and he’s heads in the right space. He needs support not criticism.

Agree totally, we've missed him big time and he will get better and better for us, especially as it firms up. That challenge from Currie was a straight red. If it had been Tetevano who'd have done that hit he'd have got 4 game ban.

I think JJB needs a bit of credit (and for Sezer) he has said he recognises that some players cannot play to their ability if they aren't 100% I think not playing Fusitua at the moment if he isn't right is 100% the correct decision.
I'm still convinced he will be a star in SL.
