I hardily feel at home in Leeds anymore as the Yuppie way of life has moved into this once great city. This has even effected the Rhinos shop that has moved up in the world recently to the St Johns Shopping Centre. It really isn’t like the good old days when you could just pop in Kirkgate Market for your Rhinos stuff. A no frills shopping experience where you didn’t have to walk around much.

These days the Rhinos have a city centre shop that is too big and modern for my liking. So big that you can do cartwheels around the store of which would of landed you in the Accident and Emergency if attempted in the old. I actually miss the queuing outside the door to get in the old shop. The new one is just full of opportunist who read full books then decide not to buy them.

Walking to the new Rhinos shop is also so much different. You don’t get the good atmosphere of Kirkgate Market in St Johns Centre whatsoever. All you get in St Johns Centre is them consumers who buy things their don’t really need. In Kirkgate Market you get characters like no other place in the country. The whole place is full of people who inspired the sitcom Queenies Castle.



Lets hope that the city centre Leeds Rhinos shop is back in its rightful place one day. I’d like to buy stuff from a grade one listed building rather than from the current contruction eyesore that its in right now.

St Johns centre.....moving up in the world. WTF?

Not exactly Victoria Quarter where the shop will probably be relocating to next. But still St Johns Centre is a step up in the commercial world from the market.

Still I’d rather be nostalgic and for the shop to be back where it truely belongs.

Have to agree with Damo here - the city centre shop should be in the market and not the posh indoor bit but the true salt of 't earth open air bit where you can rub shoulders with REAL people that either smell of p[size=100i[/sizess or are trying to nick your wallet.

While we're at it that new Carnegie stand is way too posh - knock it down and replace it with a good old open terrace with a couple of port-a-cabins at the back for the prawn sandwich brigade.

I'm twice Damo's age and I can't remember Queenie's Castle (although I do remember Quarry Hill flats) but then again I don't have to try and fill the hours in my day by trying to avoid getting a job and scrounging my way through life - killing time by scratching my balls, watching Jeremy Kyle and tossing it off on the internet all day.

Lets just say filming wouldn't last a day.

I'm so glad my tax is helping Damo buy sporting merchandise.

Its interest from the bank that’s paying my for my sporting merchandise. Basically any money you pay is going into a black hole and any money I get is coming out of one.

Its an un-payable debt and that’s how the bankers like it.

Damo, maybe Gibbins (Gibbons???) twins can work in the shop, give a bit of that fruit and veg market stall feel???

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purposely walked through the market just to hear the Fruit and Veg stall shouters. You don’t get anything like that in a super market like ASDA or Sainsbury‘s.

A CD should be put together ‘sounds of Leeds Market’. Its certainly a lot more fulfilling than Paul McKenna and that other hypnotic crap you can get these days.

Never had that problem when I had a Rhinos bed set from the market.
