Oliver Morris died in WW2, as did another Leeds player called Toothill. There may be other Leeds players as well - the Ken Dalby books may be the best source to look.

True, but given at the time there'd been very few serious nuclear detonations both at war or for research, the long term health effects of radiation would have been beyond medical science of the day.

On the other hand, given radioactive half lives, background radiation may well have been significantly lower that the immediate aftermath of the H-Bomb being dropped.
