I was there too in Cardiff and I loved it. I think the idea of taking a city over with league is great. I feel that we could continue to develop the magic weekend and it should become something for all fans to look forward to.
I really like the exiles concept too. It is good to have a really competative game for the international team to play. We certainly need to do something to try and catch up with the southern teams. The only way to improve this idea would be to construct a week off somehow.
Alternatively, if we are going to stick with this pantomime concept demeaning representative rugby, move it to the weekend between the Grand Final and the start of the Four Nations. Let it serve as a genuine warm-up game for England rather than a pointless mid-season diversion.
I've got an idea... instead of playing a bunch of blokes that have either long since retired, or never actually represented, why don't we play the actual current Australia & New Zealand teams?
We could do it after the season had finished. Perhaps in some sort of tournament arrangement. We could do with adding some whipping boys every year too. Wales, France or PNG would be my shout. 1) It would make up the numbers, and 2) It would give England a chance of winning a match.
I think it's a flyer. If it takes off, we could even eventually include up to 6 different countries, or if you'd prefer... "Nations". The only stumbling block I can see is just what you'd name such a prestigious competition in which 6 Nations competed against one another.
I'm not a fan of the exiles concept tbh, i think it should be another big wake up call, to where england rl is at the moment, we are highlighting the amount of overseas players in SL and lets face it bluey was able to pick a better group of players than mcnamara. i know we were missing mcguire, brough, roby, burgess, and ellis but thats no excuse.
i'd scrap the magic weekend, free up a weekend and like to see yorshire vs lancashire brought back with it getting as much promotion and hype as the england vs exiles got
