| Quote ="Poker Face"We have read a lot about Orr and Chase wanting to develop an understanding, but I have a worry that came from the Hull friendly.
I would like to see Milner as a direct replacement for Hudson when the changes are being made. If we start messing around with Orr at 9, McGoldrick and Chase in the halves, it does nothing for developing combinations and confidence. I thought we looked far more disjointed when McGoldrick came on in attack and he was left chasing shadows on our right side of defence.
We have a long standing problem with McGoldrick and that he is positionless. He doesn't have one. We constantly tinker and play players out of position to 'accomodate him' somehwere in the line. Matterson has eluded to the fact that now we have Mathers, it frees him up to play in the line. Therefore, I feel we will play the season with both Orr and McGoldrick sharing the most pivotal position in the team and for me...this isn't a good thing.'"
Milner was injured, hence why he didn't play a part. TM has already said that Hudson and Milner are likely to interchange so I think we can see a lot more of young Adam this season. Goldy is going to have to work hard for his place as he's going to find himself with a lot more competition for his place. His performance against Hull was hardly inspiring stuff. McGoldrick is a centre by trade but I'm worried that we're going to have to keep sticking a defensive second-row and winger with him because he struggles when it comes to one-on-one tackles.

| Quote ="pyeman"What was the point in developing arundel if we arent going to play him, no player should be on the team sheet till they have proved themselves. I think isa will be a good player for us and i would have him in the centres over mcgoldrick (as none of goldies strengths will be used at centre and his weaknesses will be exposed) the point i'm making is that of the 3 arundel has played more games at centre for us and has looked the best of the 3 in that position while they've been playing for the club. Playing two centres who have played less than 80 minutes at centre for us between them would be just what kear wants.'"
I agree with everything your saying, i would personally go with Arundel and Isa in the centres, i think that Mcgoldrick will not enjoy it at centre, when he played at centre in NL1 he wasnt anything special, but i do think that TM will have him and Isa in the centres on Saturday, without doubt Arundel will get his chance and wouldnt surprise me if he was 1st choice centre during the course of the season.

| Arundel didn't show any class in superleague last year. He was average at most. If we want to be a strong side we need to be better than average. I would pick McGoldrick over Arundel. People hate McG because he can e a pillock at times and makes a few mistakes but just look at who made the most yards in our team last year? Not just that but who came in the top 5 yard makers in superleague last year? People need to stop picking Arundel because he a Cas young lad. He is at most average.

This is the most ridiculous post i think i have ever seen.
Joe Arundel was breaking into the side last year, He was 18 years old, And still not the largest build. He came up against some of the most experienced centres in the game, And, Kept them very quiet. Keith Senior for one, Was outplayed by Arundel.
Joe Arundel in the off season, Has worked as hard as any other player in the squad, If not harder. He is bigger, Faster and Stronger, And he has a touch of class, His defence is absolutely spot on, And is a natural centre. Without a doubt.
I can tell you for sure, That Terry Matterson's view at the minute is Joe is the first choice centre at the club, Lets see how Isa goes. But the thoughts are in 18 months, Arundel will be pulling on an England Jersey.
To say he is average, And only getting picked because he is a local lad is laughable.
Ryan McGoldrick will struggle to find a spot. He isnt as good a Full Back as Mathers, Isnt as good a Centre as Arundel, Or probably Arundel and Thompson, He isnt in the same class as Chase, Isnt as good as Orr, He isnt a hooker, And Isnt as good as Ferres at 13.
He is a versatile player, Who will come in handy. But he wont be stealing Arundel's centre shirt, Nobody will.

| Kemp if you see my team I've not dropped Arundel from centre, I still think he will play but I'm telling you now, at the moment e is average. He has not done anything in superleague to be classed as excellent yet. I just think people on here need to relax abit as he is not proven yet. I hope he proves me wrong this year but unheard what your saying. Apart from did you go hull KR last year. First 4 Hull KR tries were all scored down his side of the field so you need to see where I am also coming from. I would still pick him but I wouldn't rate him at the level some do on here.

I haven't described him as Excellent as yet, I do think in time he will be better than Shenton, But he is more than capable at this level. I wouldnt just say he was Average, He is good, And going to keep getting better with the more came time.
As for the Hull Kr game, I was there, And i think he may have missed 1 tackle for the tries, A lot was to blame by the second row at the time leaving them short. Its very easy to criticise the men out wide when overlaps occur, But the majority of the time, Its the men inside who have made a rash judgement and left them short.
As you know, Or may know. My opinion is biased, I have known Joe for years, But having watched him improve ridiculously over the last 2 years, I seriously think he is going all the way. He has a winners attitude.

Those tries were all down to Rangi.

| Only place McG i can see fitting in come MM is the bench, i think Arundel will only improve on his already impressive displays and Isa (despite only playing 3/4's of a friendly) looks a good talent, McG's versatility could be a dnager off the bench, been able to cover FB, wing, centre, 6&7

You can never blame a halfback for defence. Tries were between centre and second row. Players know halfbacks ain't the best defenders so everyone else should cover them. I was there and it weren't Rangi. Trust me.

I think he could be blamed for one, They were already short, And he shot out
But for my reckoning, The second row was more to blame than Joe
I know. If he doesnt make it to the International stage, It wont be because of lack of dedication off the field

Like others have mentioned. I wouldn't leave him out of 17 as he can cover all over park.

He is very versatile and can be destructive in attack when he's on his game. Unfortunately his defence can be a real weak link - the first thing that happened after he came on last week was Hull scoring where he was covering.

| For once we have a number of options/permutations, especially on the interchange, and I'm not sure yet which are likely to work best against any given opposition. The one thing about which I am clear is that we must have an hooker among the subs and refrain from either misusing Jones there or disrupting our shape by switching Chase/Orr. So if Milner is fit he must be on the bench as far as I'm concerned. For balance and fitness/ favouritism aside we should look something like this:
Mathers
Youngquest
Arundel
Isa
Dixon
Chase
Orr
Fozzard
Hudson
Huby
Snitch
Ferres
Aspinwall
Milner plus 3 from
Walker/Emmett/McGoldrick/Jackson/Widders (probably in that order)

McGoldrick could be out for the season and is likely to miss this weekend through injury. This is due to a flare-up to a knee injury that happened last season and he has played with. Should it not clear up, he may require surgery.

| For me if Widders is fit hes got to play,
1. Mathers
2. Dixon
3. Arundel
4. Isa
5.Yougquest
6. Chase
7. Orr
8. Fozzard
9. Hudson
10. Huby
11. Aspinwall
12. Snitch
13. Ferres
14. Milner
15. Jackson
16. Widders
17. McGoldrick/Emmett
We should go with a big but mobile pack as Wakeys dont have the biggest pack, if we win the forwards battle we could put a score on them. But i expect it to be close.
No space for Jones this week unfortunately but it nice to have a bit of competition for places for once.

This would be the suspect defence that TM has praised every time he mentions Aspinwall.

| I can see both missing out but Apsinwall has anything but a suspect defence. He is probably quite a bit underdone coming back from his injury.
