| The implication from this article is that at first his team mates had the up most respect for him, so much so they weren't comfortable even mentioning him being gay. The point is that first of all you can't compare what his team mates may have said to the abuse he received at Castleford. Furthmore, it is irrelevant if he was or was not offended, homophobic abuse was no doubt offensive to the many other people (especially those with children) who heard it.
It will be interesting to see how your appeal gets on.

| Quote ="Matt King's Barber"First of all. I am not "as bad". The point I was making in that in our circle of friends we are able to make ginger jokes because we know he takes it as a joke and gives as good as he gets (it has been that way since we were three!). However none of us would dream of making a joke about the gay or ethnic minority members of our group. As for any form of abuse being "bullying", I don't know if there is a definition out there for bullying, but I am fairly confident that acts of bullying must carry some form of malice or intention. Thus calling my best mate of 15 years a ginger related joke when I know he will take it as a joke and reply with something equally funny cannot be called bullying.
As for Cas fans calling Riley ginger, I wouldn't be offended and I bet he wouldn't consider it much more than a minor distraction too. Cas fans certainly wouldn't get in trouble for calling him ginger.
At the end of the day you cannot equate generic sporting banter with racial/homophobic abuse. As a club your time and efforts would be better spent backing the players and weeding out the idiots.'"
I am a civil servant and we have an equality and diversity policy that means I would be brought up on a gross misconduct charged and if found guilty would be sacked for any form of abuse be it homophobic racial colour of someone's hair or size of their waist. It does not matter if the person I victimised is offended either, if the abuse offends someone else then they are obliged to report me! The RFL now have to be very careful as they have opened a can of worms!!!!

| We will never see a club fined £40,000 for chants about hair colour or size. Unless of course such chants were mixed with other forms of abuse.
It just isn't going to happen. The way that a lot of people (not just Castleford fans) have gone "Oh well Leeds called Graham fat and ginger so they should get fined too" is insane, and undermines the severity of what has taken place, by trying to equate two totally different forms of abuse.

The more posts of yours I read, the more I swing towards thinking maybe the RFL fine was spot on.
Quote Arguing that it's not really anything deserving action or punishment, or on a par with the newly discovered "hair colourism" - whatever tf that is - not only undermines and trivialises the club's real grounds for appeal but actually reinforces the prosecution case that we don't take homophobia seriously and stronger action by the RFL and clubs is needed to drive the message home.'"

| Quote ="Riggins"6 minutes 38 seconds into the game tonight, the south stand chanted clearly on Sky towards James Graham, 'you're just a fat ginger b*****d'. Then on 15 minutes and 55 seconds Phil Clarke admitted that the south stand gives him grief.
So that's OK then to make fun of big ginger haired people is it?
I'm be dropping the RFL an email Monday morning asking if Leeds will now be looked at and fined. They've raised the bar now.'"
Did Leeds have a fine suspended sentence hanging over them on the back of previous warnings also?
Thought not.
As fans you are just making yourselves sound ridiculous now. There is no doubt the fine was harsh, but as you were the only club to have been warned several times and have a suspended sentence hanging over you about lack of crowd control, you can harldy bleat at other clubs to have the same treatment.

Excuse me? Something unrelated?
It had nothing to do with something unrelated. You were warned previously about not controlling your crowd. You were fined subsequently, half of which suspended subject to future behaviour, for not adhering to those warnings. And then you go and reapeat it again, therefore as with any incident that is a suspended you quite rightly incurred that suspended fine plus what is relevant to the new incident.
Did any other club have that same warning or suspended sentence hanging over them?
Rather than bleat about consipiracy's on a message board, it would be better for your club and the game as a whole if you all united in getting rid of your poor minority of fans.

| So why quote the redhead incident from the rhino's game?
What was being put up for discussion was abuse as a whole and whether the RFL would be dealing with all things equally....

Well that's quite simple. Was it not that the opening poster was saying Leeds should be given a £40k fine like Cas because of the "alleged" redhead incident?
My response was did Leeds have a suspended fine hanging over them or had been warned previosly about controlling supporters?
If you want to treat them all equally then they are only the same if Leeds or any other club had the same warnings and suspended sentence hanging over them. As it stands now, had the opening poster put that because of this incident on Saturday then Leeds should be warned about future controlling of fans, then he might have had a point. But he didn't, he said Leeds should be fined the same as Cas.
What Leeds did on Saturday is put officials into the stand and announced immediately over the tannoy of what there intentions were if the language continued. This is something Cas even failed to begin to do, despite previous warnings and a suspended fine hanging over them.

Erm cas did put officials into the stand and sent warnings out over the tannoy, so leeds did no more than cas did.
So you think leeds should be given a suspended fine if the rfl are employing its respect policy without favour?

I dont live in a slum thanks, havent even seen one since last time i travelled through leeds. Theres plenty of gay and ginger people in cas thanks one of my best friends happens to fall into both catogories.
So tell us why in your head is it ok to abuse one set of people for being who they are, but not ok to abuse another group of people.
All forms of discrimination are wrong, if you cant see that your a bigot.

No, I think if the RFL deem that Leeds mad as little effor in controlling their supporters had Cas had previously done, then they should be warned about it. Which is what Cas were done previously to getting the suspended fine, which was previous to the new fine.
That is what handling equally is.

Why is it that so many Leeds fans appear incapable of posting a rugby related comment on another club's board without making a disparaging remark about their supporter's perceived socio/economic status. The Rhino's fan base really does include some of the most insidious/obnoxious pieces of work you would ever hope not to meet.
Anyway.... while agreeing that our homophobic chanting was more unacceptable than the episode at Headingley on Saturday it is still valid to suggest Leeds have a case to answer in relation to the game's Respect policy.

Given that the abuse of players and officials continued throughout the game, its obvious that leeds did not do a good enough job of controlling the fans. Which is is against the rfls respect policy, therefore it would be fair for leeds to get a warning from the rfl and a fine if it happens again. That is of course if all clubs are treated equally by the rfl. This will prove if they are or not.

No it didn't continue throughout the game. It stopped. But then again without the sky cameras there I wouldn't have even know about it, as I sit in the Carnegie and can not hear much chanting from the southstand most weeks.
But that said, if a warning is deemed then that is fair enough. So you agree that the opening poster has completely gone over the top though?
I take it you will also be putting in your complaints to the RFL about Warrington last week on Sky, and will look for your future episodes for all Sky covered games, since the same language is indeed clearly audible at all games.
The key though is whether a club does something about it, something Cas could learn a lot from previously.

The chanting may have stopped and started but it was heard at the start of the match (6 minutes or so in iirc) and was heard a number of other times during the game (last time i could recall hearing it at about 65 mins i think). The chanting was on a larger scale and for longer duration than cas got fined for.
You may not have heard it at the game but the chanting cas got fined for wasnt heard by most cas fans, anyone in the press box, the refereeing staff or the match commisionaire.
I would agree that first leeds deserve a warning but the fact they deserve one according to the rfls respect policy can be in no doubt.
And yes complaints should be made about the warrington game and all other games featuring abuse of players and officials now that the rfl have set a precedent. We cant have some forms of discrimination ignored or some clubs let of, all should be punished eqaully if the rfl is to prove it has no agenda.

I'm glad you said that. So now I take it you also think that Cas should be penalised further after yesterday's match? I was at your game yesterday, as I am at the majority of your home matches, and you can not get away from the fact that the crowd were singing "the referees a w@n*er", can you now? Nor can you get away with the constant singing of "we all hate Leeds scum, we all hate Leeds scum", along to the music after every score, can you now? where will it stop? I noticed quite clearly a piece of scum walking out of the ground in tears after that 4th try.
