Great news and hopefully the board back him with money the same way they did Marshall. The downside is we will lose Chester Butler but that was always going to happen as he is far too good to be playing at this level.

Grixy has had a great start. In the post- match interview on Saturday, QLT made mention about more attacking freedom and I seem to remember Grix saying from the Eagles game that he wanted Murrell, QLT, White, WBH and now Scott Grix to have more touches of the ball. It seems maybe as well that Brandon Moore is spending more time in the second row with Kaye more time at hooker. Perhaps I am being disrespectful to BK but his distribution is still too slow but clearly defensively and perhaps his leadership is all there for all to see. We look more fluid in attack and with Tangata to come back, we have weapons all across the pitch in the likes of Barber, Sharp, Robinson, Butler, QLT. The forwards really stood up well to a massive Bradford pack. Kav and Fairbank have been awesome the last month. Young Davies as well has been really impressive.

I am still not convinced that Grixy is the 'right' choice but if he is, I hope that we are maybe looking at an experienced assistant to guide and troubleshoot. It's pretty clear that Marshall has been giving Grix tutelage and guidance and as I said before, any organisation worth its salt has some sort of succession management in place so arguably, Grix is ready for the step up despite the inexperience. I know it's not a linear comparison but if you look at Sean McVay who is head coach of the LA Rams in the NFL, he is 32 and took them to the superbowl last year, heading up umpteen different coaches as we all well know with american football teams. A true test will be when we eventually hit a slump in form and see how he gets the team to respond.

End of season makes no sense at all. Players need to have confidence in where it's going, and recruitment should be underway now. Not gonna happen if coach for next year not confirmed.

Natural successor for Marshall for me.

Glad we've now got a coach and assistant who have a genuine pedigree and played with flair.Marshall was perhaps the most mundane
player i can remember and it was mirrored in his coaching.

I was at the Press Conference and no he hasn't.

Nice one FM I still think he has plenty to offer,providing it doesn't hamper his new responsilities.

Grix said earlier, when he took over from RM, that should he get the job permanently he would give up playing. Please with his appointment.

I have to say I feel a little underwhelmed at the 'media' announcement.

While at this time it is good to have Simon Grix at the helm, he has shown what this team are capable of, and with a every thing going forward top five looks lot more possible at present. Scott Murrel looks a different player too.
However the way 'Fax built the event I was mulling the possibility a major sponsor was also in the wings, a real money man/woman/ company announcement to throw the required amount of money to make full time and a real tilt at Super League.

Now for Batley and beyond, 'Up the 'Fax' 'get into them'.

I have to say Mal, I was perplexed at some of the above.... The "Commercial Director" getting moved from Commercial to Finance...?? WHY? - His role and task on coming into the club was to carry on the good work that was already in place when he joined the business and to bring more contacts into the club to grow revenue streams.... on what was already a pretty sound commercial footing with lots of business on board, it just needed more development but it had a healthy balance sheet.

My understanding on the last 18M however is that very little if anything at all has been SOLD and lots of match day sponsorship had been left unsold, whereas previously it was pretty much SOLD OUT when handled by other people within the club as stated above. Pre Season had little or no activity and was down by a good £15K based on other years too from what I know, leaving a significant shortfall at the club during a lean time with no other revenue coming in...... Even some senior players sponsorship was still unsold days before the season was due to start. Grixy's was actually one of these and someone who used to be within the club was asked to help to sell it URGENTLY... He subsequently sold it within 2 hours of been asked to help out.... There are lots of other situations that I find poor too....

Recent Events include lots of sponsors unhappy with their returns and have said they will not be renewing. A recent Sponsorship networking event and intended to be a showcase for the club attended by local businesses was allegedly a joke with the Commercial function admitting that they hadn't really done anything and promised to get better. I hear this entire meeting was embarrassing...

Yesterday at the press conference the BOD announced their 6 pillars to drive the club forward and when the press asked what these were, could only name 3 and struggled to real off anything with much solidarity and batted things backwards and forwards without really answering the questions... It was a bit of a train wreck really...

So how can someone who has no expertise or background be now put in Finance, someone who has failed in Commercial and be now moved into this new Finance role? I think it stinks of jobs for the boys and this really needs looking at ASAP in terms of what has actually gone on for the last 18M...? I have heard of nothing significant, yet now people who have taken on the Commercial side for the last couple of weeks have already sold some sponsorship for next year...

Its all well and good to be swanning around like lord of the manor but when it boils down to it what has actually been brought into the club...? Its not good enough IMO and this is something that needs addressing ASAP and questions need asking....

I hope that this is a new dawn for the club but there are lots of other things that need addressing first.... Things that I hear are currently been discussed. Exciting times are ahead (possibly) ;0)

@ Malfax, moot point, but I do not think you can appoint a permanent replacement, when the present incumbent is on 'gardening leave', technically still employed by the club, but not at work, and cannot seek other employment.

The point I was trying to make was the board were quite rightly having a big announcement, but because everyone knew days before as sky told all and sundry at the Bash.
Therefore they should have either just confirmed it in a press release, or as Chris Smith writes, the BoD made themselves look foolish and ill prepared with their reveals.
No I am not in a position to offer my service, if only...
