Not too sure about that. Gareth quit rugby league disillusioned after his U14 season with King Cross and went to rugby union with the Brods until the family emigrated to Melbourne. He played junior rugby at the Storm and even after his family moved to Perth he's stayed in Melbourne on his own to further his career.

Hope it goes well for the lad. Wonder if his ambition is to represent GB (or England now) or Oz?

Ironically, it's the same Martin Gonzalez who was visionary enough to resurrect the scholarship scheme last year and to ask myself on board as his co-ordinator, maybe more talent on the current scholarship will reach similar heights of playing standards, fingers crossed.
