I agree the rolling stock is a disgrace - the delay in delivery of the new trains might not be their fault - we order lots of trucks that never get delivered when Lawrence David say they will - never.

I caught a northern train on Saturday to Apperley Bridge - on time perfect and that has been my experience I caught a train Friday Halifax to Manchester 7:15 on time as was the return. Maybe I have been lucky - must be Junkers doing!!

That is so offensive to the millions of us who work damn hard to serve the public. I have seen far more dedication, for less reward, in the public sector than I did in the half of my career in the private sector. Workers in the private sector care about nothing but exploiting society & the environment for money.

Really - I think most workers in the pvt sector care about having a job - that usually means performing better than their competition. You will always get wasters in any sector - look at XR most either work in the public sector or have retired from the public sector or are in FT education run by the public.

I am not for one minute suggesting the public sector are wasters but the demands are different and the cultures are very different. If the local council isn't fit for purpose they will not close or it will not go bust and out of existence it will continue with the same people.

British Rail, like the NHS was a phenomenally efficient and creative organisation. Whilst it could never cover up for the chronic failure to fund it properly it delivered just as good reliability with much older stock on a fraction of the public subsidy being spent today.

Sadly because of the lack of investment in the past we are playing catch up and of course when that happens you need to increase spending to make up the shortfall. More people use the trains than ever before - more routes more trains more investment in infrastructure the world has moved on.

NHS has never been as creative as it is now - people are living longer in part due to advances in clinical option in the NHS - to compare how it is now to even 10 years ago is bonkers

The fact that those who work in the public sector tend to care more about society, communities & the world at large means that they tend towards peaceful protest when they see those values being destroyed. I work in full time HE & take holidays from work each time I go on such protests, as does my partner, as do all public sector workers I know. The only ones I know who were given time off work for XR or climate protests were private sector companies or charities. So what if retired people participate. The reporting across the media spectrum on the XR protests was very negative- XR is about social re-order far more than anything to do with the climate- the climate is a convenient cause to piggy back.

Missing the 31st has nothing to do with Boris, nothing to do with Brexit either it is about MPs looking down on their voters with contempt. Labour don't want an election because they will be wiped out - they know it. They need to remove Corbyn before any election. Lansman is Corbyn's Cummings. Starmer would be an ideal leader for Labour - he would give Boris a run.

Boris, like May before him, is a stooge until Brexit is finished and depending on the outcome (of Brexit and the election) he will be replaced.
Corbyn or at least the public perception of him has to go to give Labour any chance of gaining power, although, IF Boris and Farage knock enough lumps out of each other, who knows what shape the next Parliament will be - probably a hung Parliament, with Boris and Farage on one side and Corbyn and Sturgeon on the other and just for a plot twist, the Libdems holding the balance of power what fun !

Based on recent shenanigans on all sides the best thing we could do with Parliament is sack them all!
