I think sometimes its a simple as Axl just not wanting to although he did say that we would see them again soon when he left the stage and it really was worth attending just to see Estranged live - it really was awesome. Im not sure there is as much money to be made releasing albums as what they used to be and Axl has always taken time to get things right - unlike other artist that release sub standard material every other year.

On another note ive never seen Axl look so happy - he was smiling, laughing and joking all the way through the gig and the whole band were taking the out of Ashba for his constant jestures to the crowd. The other band members also performed a couple of new tunes during the set and some of the instramentals were amazing.

I think the GnR trap is one that many bands fall into - you have a brief period of huge popularity followed by a swift decline where only the hardcore of fans stick with them.
They then stop recording, more fans drift away, and by the time it's gig time again, the only way to get people packing out big venues is to play all the stuff that people know and are familiar with - as a casual fan, you'd not bother if you thought they'd be playing stuff you didn't know.
I've seen it happen with bands I like(d) - Madness, The Specials for two - who have a huge history of material that people outside the diehards have no knowledge of, and so this stuff never gets played out. New albums are recorded and then apparently disowned.

It's a bit sad really

Guess this could be a long shot, but has anybody else got Sigur Ros' latest offering 'Valtari' and, if so, what do they make of it?

Personally, I think its an absolute joy. They've dispensed with any attempt at the commercial, mainstream tunes that their last couple of albums had a flavour of, and instead they have produced almost a hour of soothing ambience.

Anybody looking for the crescendo sounds of 'Glossoli' or 'Poppalagio' will be disappointed, with only 'Varuo' coming close to that sort of thing, but if stark minimalism sounds are something that might interest you, then this will be perfect.

Don't be surprised to see a few of these tracks accompanying various BBC documentaries very soon....

I have it on order, sounds like a welcome change in direction, I hated their last effort.

Just out of interest, how do they get away with that? I reckon 95%+ of the gigs I've been to have a had a curfew of 11.00 and have only gone a few minutes past that if at all.

They don't in many cases

Several councils have tried turning the lights off, others have fined the venues who in turn have fined the band. They always get criticised in the press about it and the owners/manages of several venues have expressed their distain at their appalling behaviour. They still seem to book them for the following year however, so I wonder if it's not all just PR.

I'm really enjoying the new Saint Etienne album, [iWords And Music[/i - their best in quite a while, along with the new Best Coast album, [iThe Only Place[/i, which is better than I expected it to be.
